POSTS STORIES REELS

On Sunday 17th November 2024, at around 5:30am, our brilliant Jen passed away in hospital.

Her brilliant music (album ‘Dreams of the Lights’ by Jen Eve) has charmed many people, and when it comes to a writer as skilled as Jen, no words seem to come close to the magic she could conjure up in her novel ‘Rebel Rebel’ by Jen Eve Taylor. More words will come later, but for now we wanted to update the many people who loved her.
Jen’s mark on the world is enormous. She filled every room with laughter and music, and was always by far the best dressed.
She will be so greatly missed in her birthplace of Sydney, Australia, and her found home of London, in the online spheres where she met many of her closest friends, and in countless other places around the world, because wherever Jen went she made lasting connections and impressions. She taught everyone around her to live like she did - with joy, with a sense of adventure, like a rebel.
There is an updated blog post on Jen’s other account @thecancerchrons 💜 by @jen_eve

Rebel Rebel now hanging out at a beautiful Parisian park near you! I believe this copy sat around on a shelf by the park at Place Violet for about half an hour before getting snapped up by its next reader.
I am lucky to have 3 places that speak to my soul and feel like home. And one of them is Paris. I am so grateful to @louiserowland28 (and @phoebedodds_ ) for making my dreams of living in Paris a reality multiple times last year. And to Louise for her guerilla book distribution, setting Rebel Rebel free in the streets of Paris! by @jen_eve

Anyone kicking about West Norwood Library? The wonderful Andy has been working hard
to get Rebel Rebel on its shelves! I hear it’s also available and ready for any libraries out
there to order it in! Maybe if you are a frequenter of a local library of your own, you could
do me a huge favour and ask if they can get it in?
I’d never thought of it being in libraries, the dream of getting it published felt big enough.
But I can’t really find the words to accurately describe how much it has meant to find out it’s
sitting on shelves, that someone might pick it up with no idea of what it’s about, and decide
whether the cover and blurb are enough to entice them in. I think I’d pick it up. Would you? by @jen_eve

~ CAN YOU SPOT IT? ~
(Or swipe 👉 to zero in)
Beyond chuffed to find out Rebel Rebel is proudly nestled in Salford University Library.
I love the idea of people in the exact time of life as the characters of my novel picking it up and reading about the adventures of Jess and Astrid. (My niece has also just started uni on the other side of the world, and I’m told has a copy of my novel too! Which fills me with so much joy!
Thanks to @pollyp8 at Salford Uni for making this happen (and @jones_s14 too)
The world is a beautiful place💜 by @jen_eve

In an ideal world, I’d tell you that I’ve found a great alternative to Amazon to use for getting my book out to you all, but unfortunately we’re not currently in that world, and I’d be shooting myself in the foot if I didn’t use it (and subsequently give he-who-must-not-be-named a fairly unreasonable cut of my sales).
Anyway, I was a Kindle person before I went blind, and Audible has kind of been my saviour since I did (although I use other apps too).
So if you are also a Kindle person, well I’ve got you covered! And if you have Kindle Unlimited you can even read it for free (- and if you read the whole thing, I’ll make a whole 89p from it!)
But if you don’t have either, never fear! Print ain’t going anywhere. Paperback is a very cool option.
And watch this space for the audiobook version.

The kindest words from the kindest person. I feel so incredibly grateful for all the love and support that abounds from @jhesmondhalgh she is such an incredible patron of people and the arts, and just such a brilliant friend. It appears she has impeccable taste, so you guys should probably listen to her 😄

This is my extraordinary friend @jen_eve. In her own words she has been dealing with “a pesky bit of bone cancer” that has “claimed her eye, her top jaw, teeth, and cheekbone, and most recently, her remaining eyesight” but somehow has also managed to write, record, and produce a beautiful album, Dreams of the Lights, and written a fantastic novel, Rebel Rebel, which I just finished. FFS! She has a brilliant blog too @thecancerchrons She is also gorgeous and funny and kind, and YOU’RE WELCOME for introducing her into your lives. ❤️ by @jen_eve

Jess and Astrid have found themselves on Balmoral Beach in Sydney, in the hands of @ktreeves88. I can’t say I blame them for wanting to escape the UK at this time of year. Though the Snowdrops and Daffodils are certainly coming out now (which Astrid would love), and Spring is on its way, I’m sure of it!
But for now, it’s beach tine for Jess and Astrid! Getting sent this awesome photo got me wondering – where else might they have found themselves?
I’ve heard of them making it around the UK, across to mainland Europe, over to the US and Canada, and all the way to Australia and NZ. I would LOVE to see your pics of where you all happen to be cracking it open and joining the girls on their adventures!
If you feel like snapping a pic, go ahead and put #rebelrebeljet on it (or even just send it through to me). by @jen_eve

What’s it about? Is it a memoir? Is it to do with cancer?
These are questions I’m often asked about my novel. The latter two are easy – no, it’s not.
But the first, I find harder to answer. I’ve always frozen when trying to come up with an elevator pitch that properly encompasses what Rebel Rebel is about, without mis-representing it.
I thought everyone else was great at it, and I was probably the only person in the whole world who struggled with it.
But guess what? Turns out that isn’t true. Of course it’s not.
My writer and creative friends struggle with it too. Especially for my fellow longform writers – why say something succinctly when you can spread it across multiple chapters?
But I worked hard on the tagline and the blurb, so I’ll let it speak for itself.
What do you think - did I get it right? Did it hook you in? Well you can get a copy at the link in my bio. by @jen_eve

⚠️ATTENTION! MISSING CHAPTER FOUND! ⚠️

To all you wonderful, brilliant, fantastic people who have already bought a copy of my novel, Rebel Rebel, I have a confession to make. I went blind before I’d been able to finish reading through the final proof copy of it. With doctors once again telling me the end is nigh, I figured I don’t have time to employ someone to take however long to read over it yet again. So stuff it, I just want to get it out there and share it with people I love and the world! I want to be a published author for as long as I possibly can, I couldn’t bear the thought of never getting to hold my book in my hand.

BUT – oh, the horror! – I have just found out that chapter 28 is MISSING!!!! And chapter 29 is in there twice, masquerading as its precursor. The cheek!!

I can reassure you that the culprit has been wrangled back into its rightful place, and the missing chapter has been returned.

But for everyone who has already bought a copy, the good news is that you now have a limited edition which I’m sure will be worth millions one day. But for the time being, the missing chapter 28 is available at the link in my bio, so you can properly complete your Rebel Rebel reading adventure.

For so many years, my perfectionism and deafening inner critic stopped me from sharing my creative work, to stop even daring to make it at all for some time. My unrelenting standards paralysing me and holding me back from doing the very thing that filled my soul and kept me above water. And those once familiar negative voices are hovering a bit close for my liking right now. But I’m not going to listen to them. They have no power over me (anyone get this Bowie-ish reference?) anymore.

So please accept my sincere apologies. Of all the bad news I could be sharing, this doesn’t feel too bad, really.

Thanks for joining me on this adventure and being so brilliant and supportive.

So to everyone who bought a copy before 28/01/24, please download and print chapter 28 from the link in my bio.
And for everyone else – it’s fixed now, go get yourself a copy! Aren’t you intrigued? by @jen_eve

RELEASE DAY!
Rebel Rebel is finally available as a paperback, and on Kindle! If you head along to your country’s Amazon store and search for ‘Jen Eve Taylor’, you can get your hands on your very own copy! (Also link in bio, and you can read the blurb there too.)

I started working on this (NOT autobiographical) novel in 2019, first in London, but then I ended up writing much of the first draft from beaches, parks, swimming pools, youth hostels, cars, farms, rainforests, homesteads, hotels, rivers, cabanas, and gardens, up and down the east coast of Australia.

Later drafts were worked on across London and Paris, and other UK towns and cities, in pubs, cafes, restaurants, in hotels and on trains, and from my lovely little desk in my bedroom, with some incredible people helping along the way, all in the name of getting to hold this beautiful book in my hands, and share it with you all!

I would love to hear what you all think, which parts resonate with you, what bits you like (maybe keep it to yourself if you aren’t a fan hehe), and would be ever so grateful for any Amazon and Goodreads reviews you might feel like making!

For many years I’ve had this dream – I want to be a paperback writer. And now I am! I am so ecstatic to finally be a published author! by @jen_eve

Guess who is holding the PROOF COPY of her OWN NOVEL in her hot little hands!!!
It’s me! I am! 😁
I wish I could see it, but at least I know what it looks like - very glad I designed the cover long before I went blind.
I’ve been saying how close it is to being published for well over a year now, but this time I really mean it! It will very soon be available for purchase, I can’t wait to share with you all 400 pages of this project I’ve been working on since 2019.
My debut novel.
