Celebrating all of us day-dreamers and night-thinkers 🌙☀️ Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday I’ll be exhibiting (and lettering) at @childwickburyarts Fair - my biggest fair to date! 🙌 It really is a fab event - in an amazing venue, a spectacle of tents, entertainment and food with over 60 makers and artists all demonstrating their craft. We’re just outside Albans - 30 mins from London by train - a doddle! TODAY is the DAY! BRUSH LETTERING KITS ARE HERE! 🎉 And today is also my sons 13th birthday. If you’d have told me 13 years ago that I’d now be running my own business selling my designs countrywide, stocking gift shops, hosting calligraphy workshops and launching my own brush lettering kit I wouldn’t have believed you. If you’d have told me that I’d have a firm, supportive bunch of friends and cheerleaders I’d met on the Internet (and IRL!) championing and motivating me at every turn I’m not sure I’d have believed you either. But I do! THANK YOU so much for all your support and words of encouragement!! BRUSH LETTERING KITS ARE NOW LIVE 💫 It’s no secret the last 2 years have been tricky ones. Whatever we have done or not quite been able to do is enough. Lettering is a marvellous distraction. I have opened up 2 NEW SPACES on my January 15th beginners workshop 🥳 so if you’d like to try a new craft this year how about it being brush calligraphy? ✍️ We learn everything from how to hold the pen to make essential strokes, through to letter formation, layout and composition. You’ll come away having created a unique piece of calligraphy you can frame, keep or give as a gift. Spoiler alert : they didn’t stay this way for long 😂 we all used them at Saturdays workshop! One of the only things I ask of my workshop guests when they pick up their pens to learn and create is simply ‘don’t be too hard on yourself’. Admittedly I’m not always too good at following my own advice! So I’m learning to lean into these snippets - if they were good enough to help guide my children through their early years, then they’re good enough for me too (and you if any of these resonate!) Are there any nuggets I’ve missed? Is there anything you would you add to these, for yourself - or as a little bit of extra advice for a serial self-doubter like me? This is the final post of #thesummerreset2026 - I made it to 7 posts in a row (never before!!) but don’t worry although I know I’d like to carry on enthusiastically I’ll probably resume my usual behaviour of far less posting next week 😉 by @jen_roffe

I’ve been taking part in an Instagram challenge with @businesssecretsclub this week, which really has been all about marketing my business; The broad goal for me has been being gaining more brand visibility by creating better and more consistent posts to (hopefully) increase likes, shares and saves. And it’s been quite good! As well as discovering and chatting with some really very lovely new people and small businesses, I’ve reached my own challenge goal of posting EVERY day this week, and that feels like a big win for me. But, most of the time my progress is much quieter than that. It’s the progress I make by practising the same calligraphy drills for the hundredth time, it’s managing not to compare myself to a stranger on the internet and just create anyway, and it will be posting here again tomorrow, even if only a handful of you see it. Progress to me is running a small business one ordinary day at a time with all of life’s up and down interruptions thrown into the mix and still carrying on. I think we often overlook these quieter moments because they don’t feel exciting enough. But they’re usually the moments that make it all come together. So if today feels slow, or if all you’ve done is carry on, that still counts. And if you’ve been doing the challenge too but wish it had brought you more then just remember : Quiet progress is still progress. 💛 #thesummerreset2026 #keepgoing by @jen_roffe

To quote the soundtrack (listen!) it ain’t what you do it’s the way that you do it 🥰 I LOVE my workshops - they are an absolute joy. From writing a personalised place name for everyone, to choosing the biscuits and making the tea - getting everyone together around a table learning joyful calligraphy is most definitely my happy place, and, so it seems, everyone there’s happy place too! Even if I do have to set up all the tables and chairs first. 💪 On the edge of a gorgeous park, surrounded by nature (and always with my piano music to feel completely chilled out) what’s not to love?! I’ve never been one for overly shouting about my wins so there are some losers in here too (for full BBC style balance I’ve rated each for a variety of things so you will start to understand that in my head there’s *definitely* two sides to every story 😂) It would be fair to say I’ve had a pretty good first half of the year despite being locked in a room, having to shelve a whole new collection of prints, and forgetting to bring the milk to a workshop. (I mean you can’t do calligraphy without a cuppa!!) Clearly I very much enjoyed (cringe) a couple of brushes with fame this year BUT of course the highest rated event of the last 6 months was spending the weekend working with my 17 year old at my first market of the year. SHARE this with someone who loves pens! As well as creating hand-lettered prints, I also teach calligraphy - the fun and joyful kind! If you’ve never tried blending your brush pens together, you’re missing out on a whole new world of colours. 🌈 By picking up a little of one colour on the tip of another, you can create beautiful ombré effects and all sorts of new shades - without ever buying another pen. Yes, I admit it feels a tiny bit wrong the first time... (clean pen lovers, I can see the look of horror on your faces!) But trust me, your pens, for the most, will be absolutely fine. 😉 If you know someone who loves stationery, brush pens or calligraphy, send this to them - they’ll definitely want to try it! Would you say that out loud? 😳 My prints aren’t for everyone, I totally get that, and I do *try* not to take comments like this personally but this one was a toughy!! I think sometimes people forget that the person who was made the art is often standing a metre away from them at a market….. Has this ever happened to you? If there’s something you want in life, go for it. You never know where it might lead! I wasn’t always a calligrapher, and I still don’t really think of myself as an artist, so sometimes I have to stop and double-check that this is actually the life I’ve found myself living. But being brave enough to give it a go certainly opened the door to a whole different world. Running a business - no matter how small- is all-consuming, and at times it’s really hard to balance life and work. But I honestly can’t imagine doing it any other way now. As per, I didn’t have a detailed plan; I just followed the dream that started to take shape when the boys went to school, and somehow I’m still here doing what I love doing!
