First camp of the season just hits different.

There’s something about getting out there early that sets the tone for everything that follows.

This one was last minute, pretty spontaneous and still exactly what I needed. A good reminder that not everything has to be perfectly planned to be a success. Learning (again) to let go, trust the process, and just be out here living.

The mountains were good to me this summer. Wildflowers, alpine lakes, miles of views and long days above treeline. I would’ve stayed a little longer.

But ✨ desert season ✨ will always be my favorite.

Red dirt. Sandstone. Late light catching the mesas. Dust on everything I own.

Kingston Peak is by far one of my favorite trails we’ve ever run.

Something about today made me want to linger a little longer. Take in the view once more. Let the rest of the world wait.

I’m not sure I can explain exactly what made it feel so special. But this is one I'll always want to return to.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know what's coming next.

But, the more I actually live instead of constantly trying to plan and process my way into the future, the more I recognize the person underneath all of that searching.
And maybe those things will naturally lead me toward the next step I've spent so much time trying to find by force.

I think of you often, Tom. And most days, the memories are beautiful things to carry with me. Little pieces of a life we shared that I still get to walk around with. But this day will always feel different. Heavy. Overcast by the memory of what happened and all the pain that came after.

Sometimes I think my body remembers before my mind does. The cooler mornings. The light beginning to change. Shadows stretching a little longer as fall gets closer. Something in me recognizes this time of year and braces for what it now symbolizes. The weight of carrying both your love and your loss.

It seems grief keeps its own calendar.
Time is such a strange thing after a moment that divides your life so completely into before and after. Nine years can somehow feel like an entire lifetime and also no time at all.
I think of you often, Tom. I miss you, so much. And I’m grateful that after all this time, I still get to carry so much of you with me. 🖤
