30 years ago, these two crazy kids convinced their friends and family to travel to an island off the coast of Washington State to see them promise to be each other’s best friends for life. Seems to be working out. by @jenachampion

Happy 80th to my awesome dad, @simonandsevie ! The whole family, plus his great friend (also part of the family) Byung, gathered in Cincinnati to celebrate. So happy to have this guy in my life-he is one of a kind. by @jenachampion

This guy has really been through it over the past month. At the beginning of April, a PCL replacement in his left knee had him in a straight leg brace, on crutches, in pain, but healing. It’s a 9-month recovery and was very carefully planned around snowboarding season so that he could be back on snow next January. Two weeks in, he started feeling pain in his abdomen and was distended. Craig had extensive abdominal surgery as a teen, due to a misdiagnosed ruptured appendix that kept him hospitalized for a couple of months, and from time to time his intestines get tangled and blocked, which can be deadly if not addressed immediately. This was 15 days ago and we took him to the emergency room where they said there wasn’t time to go to a bigger hospital and he would need emergency surgery to cut out the part of his intestines that was blocked. It was a major risk that even the surgeon didn’t want to take but it was the only choice. Within 20 minutes we were saying “see you on the other side”, knowing that it might be the last time we saw each other. 2 hours later, the surgeon came out with a huge smile and let me know it went well. He added, “he has so much adhesion in there that if this ever happens again, he won’t survive.” Since then Craig has spent another 8 days in the hospital in Reno recovering and insuring that all the plumbing is working. He is nauseous and has pain as he heals from 2 major surgeries at once. Sleep is only a memory at this point. He’s grumpy. But he’s here. If you get a chance, reach out to him.
