Hi, I’m Jen!

I’ve owned a paint-your-own pottery shop in Northern California for 20 years.

Over those 20 years, I’ve learned one big thing:

A happy, drama-free team changes everything.

When employees feel heard and safe,
business gets better, customers are happier,
and owners can actually step away.

I’m still running my shop and now I’m building something new —
helping other women retail owners lead their Gen Z teams with confidence.

I’m also a 51 year champion of congenital heart disease, a traveler, a dog mom and someone who believes running a retail business can be joyful.

That was me at 30 years old when I started my DIY walk-in art studio. Now I work 2-3X a week and teach art every Monday at a school near my house!

Hi 👋🏼 if we haven’t met, I’m Jen, proud owner of a paint your own pottery shop for 21 years, dog mom and born with a rare heart condition that I won’t let slow me down!

I’m a veteran at leading Gen Z teams and keeping my staff for at least 1 year or more. I’m on a mission to protect leadership peace ☮️.
I believe you can have a retail shop AND a life! A life with freedom AND money. I know it’s possible because I’ve done it.

Game time! How well do ya know me and how I run my shop?

Play Two truths and a lie with me:

1) I make all my employees clean the toilet.
2) I have all my employees learn every single aspect of the store.
3) Once a quarter we get together and we do team building like painting pottery 🖌️, go to a movie 🎥 or so something fun.

My husband’s birthday was this week and I was there for his party!

A few years ago, that would’ve meant rushing from the shop, late AGAIN and apologizing before I even sat down.

This year I was there. The whole time. Cake and everything.

That’s not luck. That’s what happens when your team actually knows what to do without you standing over their shoulder. You built your shop. It shouldn’t own your calendar.

No business background, no business degree, just a graphic artist with a passion for art.

I started teaching fused classes in a pottery store I didn’t own.

I learned business the hard way. Hiring my first employee and making her my friend, thinking my customers were my friends until I had to raise prices and learning to hold boundaries.

I failed more times than I can think. I cried, screamed and wanted to give up.

When my manager quit after 6 years before I was given another pottery studio I was so stressed I had a mini stoke and lost my hearing in my left ear. Still working to hear in that ear to this day!

I cried, but didn’t give up.
I had adult tantrums, but didn’t quit.
I showed my husband and my family the most vulnerable parts of me and they still supported me.

I went through it all:

Recession of 2008
100s of employees trained
$15,000 remodel in 12 days
2 wildfires
Small remodel - took out a room and built a loft
1 major flood
Pandemic
A stoke with hearing loss
2 stores
Closed one after 8 months

21 years later- traveled to 15 different countries and now work 2 days a week while my staff brings in the revenue!

Wish I had a guide to get me through to the success without the hell. I now teach ALL I learned so you can: Train it. Trust it. Travel!

Small business owners!

When you’re away from your shop, do your employees have a way to be reminded if they forget how to do an important chore?

I know it can be a drag to type out instructions, but think of it as planning for your future freedom so you’re employees can run the shop without you.

I have instructions posted in a few areas of my store just in case they forget how to work a machine or run a kiln.
