The chill factor was high and snow was coming when I visited Tessa Brown at Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown late yesterday at the VS&B vineyards, 500m high, at Stanley outside Beechworth.
Talk about über cool climate wines!!!

The joining of the Casella & Morris families is a partnership celebrating the power & resilience of family-owned wine companies. The move into whiskies & gins (and soon, rum) has had the added benefit of introducing 20-somethings to fortifieds. It’s been a logical move when the barrels used for fortified production are then employed in the making of whisky. It’s a good story to tell & it’s working at the cellar door which now includes a range of whiskey-led cocktails to taste. by @jeniport

Tomorrow, Casella Wines will acknowledge & celebrate 10 years since its acquisition of Morris Wines from Pernod Ricard. At the time, Pernod Ricard said it could not make the company sustainable given the decline in the consumption of fortified wine . Little did it know . . . by @jeniport

Sam Neill was leading a grass roots campaign against the planned Bendigo-Ophir Gold Project in Central Otago when he died. He knew gold mining & the future of one of New Zealand’s great wine regions did not mix. Here’s hoping the Central winemakers continue the fight . . . for Sam & the region’s future. by @jeniport

Deeoly saddened by today’s news of the sudden passing of Sam Neill. Loved chatting with the man about wine, especially pinot noir, about politics and Central Otago & just about anything really. . . A great actor, winemaker and all round human being. by @jeniport
