Happy Sweet 16, Kins!

Watching you grow into the strong, beautiful, independent girl that you are today has been one of my greatest joys. You have the biggest heart, a fierce sense of loyalty, and a bit of a stubborn streak that I mostly admire 🤭

My prayer for this next chapter is that you laugh a little louder, worry a little less, make the best memories with your friends, and always stay true to who God created you to be.

Sixteen looks good on you, babe. Love you! 😘

Another Senior-Not-Every-Sunday, and this time it’s Kinsley’s turn. 🤍

Ten years ago, Rees and Corbin came into Kinsley and Leighton’s lives, and four kids who had always known one version of family suddenly had to adjust to a completely new one. And if I’m being truthful, it wasn’t always easy. There were growing pains, plenty of adjustments, and a whole lot of learning how to share — space, parents, traditions, attention and eventually, life.

But somewhere along the way, these two didn’t just become sisters because James and I got married. They became sisters. And after nearly eight years of sharing a bedroom, I think Kinsley can tell this part of their story better than I ever could:

“For almost 8 years, me and Rees have shared a room, our clothes, our secrets, our laughs, and probably way too many conversations about people we probably shouldn’t have been talking about.

She’s been the person I could always come to when I needed advice, someone to laugh with, someone to vent to, and someone I could count on to make me laugh.

Since I’ve known her, I’ve loved watching her grow into the person she is today, and I genuinely couldn’t be more proud to call her my sister. I’ve always looked up to her, even if I don’t say it enough. She’s shown me what it looks like to be confident, caring, hardworking, and completely yourself.

Watching her do cheer, find her style, make memories, and become the person she is today has made me so proud to be her sister.

It’s weird knowing that the room we’ve shared for so many years won’t always be our room, and that I won’t always get to yell across it to tell her something random or come bother her just because I can. I’m going to miss all the little things that I never thought I’d have to miss.

It’s gonna be weird being the oldest in the house, but I’ve learned so much from you that I know I’ll be good at it.

No matter where life takes her after high school, she’ll always be the sister I look up to and the person I can tell anything to.

I hope she knows how much I love her. Senior year looks so good on her, but I’m not ready for her to leave me yet.

Forever bigs!” 🤍

It’s this guy’s 15th birthday today 🩷

There’s so much I could say about Corbin. He is driven, passionate and SO competitive. He puts his whole heart into everything he does, and I love getting to watch him do it. And as much I love being a girl mom, I equally love being a boy mom — all the sports, all the games, all the time in bleachers and sidelines. Give me all of it.

But as much as I love watching him compete, I love his sweet spirit and huge heart even more. He loves his people BIG. And watching him and his friends grow up together — the way those boys show up for each other, hype each other up and genuinely love each other — is one of my favorite things.

Corbin, I hope you never lose that fire or that big heart. I’m so proud of you and love YOU big!

It’s HoCo season, y’all! And lots of exchanges were made tonight! 💚 If you’re not from Texas - yes, this is a thing. And a big thing if you’re a senior. We’ve been working on Rees’ mum since July! Can’t say enough about @miracliusa and the impeccable job she does! Also, our freshmen moms didn’t do so shabby either thanks to @jthrift13 and her guidance! by @jennabharris

Senior Not-Every-Sunday, guest contributor #2. This time, it’s the baby of the bunch. 🩷

For years, we’ve joked that Leighton’s long-term plan was simply to live with Rees forever. College, adulthood, marriage…all of it. Wherever Rees went, Leighton was apparently going too.

These two have grown up with a bond that is completely their own, and as much as we joke about it, I know this next chapter is going to be a big adjustment for both of them.

So, in Leighton’s words:

To my favorite senior,

I don’t even know where to start. I guess I’ll just start by saying I can NOT believe you’re already a senior. From when I was only four years old and just getting to know you, to now, it’s hard to fathom how many memories we’ve made — and how many we’ll continue to make, no matter the distance.

You’ve always been someone I can look up to, and I’m so beyond proud of the person you’ve become. I’m gonna miss all the late-night grocery store and QuikTrip runs with all of us, and all the giggles that one boring Jeep could hold.

I’m so so so SO thankful to have you as my sister. You’re literally a built-in best friend, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I’m so excited to see the journey God brings you, and I can’t wait to see everything you accomplish. You deserve the best, and I’ll always be cheering for you from any distance.

I love you so much, and I’m so glad to call you my sister.

Happy Senior Sunday. 🤍🤍🤍

I think we successfully navigated all the start-of-school-and-sports-and-general-beginning-of-year-chaos!! Colt County Fair, Locker Room decorating, HoCo asks, Colt Football Kick-off Dinner, Future Colt Cheer Clinic, Watermelon Social.

I told y’all there might be a few guest contributors along the way. For our next installment of Senior Not-Every-Sunday, Dad’s up. ❤️

In James’s words:

I’ve struggled a little putting this together because there’s so much I want to say, and I’m not quite sure how to fit it all into one post. I can’t believe Rees is starting her senior year, and that less than a year from now we’ll be sending her out into the world for her next chapter.

There will be plenty more I want to say as we make our way through this year, so bear with me as we get started.

Since Jenna started with the early days of her and Rees, I thought I’d go back even further.

Rees made me a dad.

She got the version of me who was learning what being a dad meant day by day, experience by experience, right alongside her. My life changed when Rees was born, but so did the person I was.

Over the years, the pictures changed from me holding her, to her standing beside me, to the two of us hanging out and taking silly selfies every chance we got. When she was little, Rees was happy to go wherever I went and do whatever I was doing. Simply put, she was my best friend. And somehow, we’ve always seemed to be on the same wavelength — our humor, our moods, and probably our stubbornness, too.

Over time, that little girl grew into a young woman with her own plans, her own opinions, and a clear sense of who she is. That independence is one of the things I admire most about her. Rees is strong, kind, empathetic, and always completely herself.

It’s hard to believe how quickly we went from that tiny baby I could hold in my palms to the young woman standing beside me today.

I was learning how to be her dad as we went, and I’m still learning. I imagine I always will be. Now we get to blaze a trail through this final chapter of childhood and into whatever comes next.

I’m proud to be your dad, Rees. I’m proud of the person you’ve become, and I can’t wait to see where you go from here.

— Dad
