Imagine if I never bought the flight…
.
.
My journey to getting on Survivor spans YEARS… and so many moments of PUTTING MYSELF OUT THERE, like this one.

My best friends all encouraged me to do this live casting call EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DOING THR MOST. That was kinda the point.

What I don’t show in this video is that on the plane ride there I was fighting through so much self doubt.

So I spent the entire plane ride journaling to that doubt.

I reminded myself:
If I don’t believe I can do this…
WHY WOULD CASTING BELIEVE IT???

And then I showed up and had to make a cut through line move in order to do my pitch 🤣

When I think back to this casting call experience, I think about how I proved to MYSELF how badly I wanted this.

Yall came along for the journey with me and I can’t quite express what that means to me.

Core memory- unlocked 😭
.
.
Truly thinking about this moment could instantly bring me to tears. One of the happiest moments of my life.

When I say my mom is my biggest cheerleader, I mean that this woman has a note on her phone documenting every single day I was gone on survivor, timestamped with what she was praying for me.

One of the biggest gifts of this whole journey was that it wasn’t just my dream… my people dreamed it with me.

So when I got the news…
I WAS PLAYING 51
I didn’t care what it took
I wanted to tell her in person.
.
.
To pull this off I had to lie to her for a week telling her I hadn’t heard back (BRUTAL).

I flew to AZ
turned off my location services
picked up these balloons
and drove to the house as fast as I could.

I had surprised my dad earlier that week (he is also one of my biggest cheerleaders) and he helped me coordinate so that my mom thought HE was going to be at the front door when she opened it-

but really he was in Baltimore 🤣

Safe to say we absolutely confused and delighted my mom, and this woman deserves every ounce of happiness life can give her 😭 by @jennadoore

Little glimpse into post-divorce grief
.
One time that I often feel grief surface is when I’m sick.

Honestly- it kind of surprised me at first. Like it feels somewhat random.

But for me, it’s a time when I’m really aware, I don’t have a partner to “take care of me”.

(PSA if you have friends going through a similar life experience… it might be a time when they feel extra grief too ❤️)

@coachbennett … I’ve got an update for you 😭

THE LORE: it was always my dream to play @survivorcbs . I applied for several years in a row, never hearing anything back.

Simultaneously: I’m a runner. In 2024 I ran 3 half marathons. I used the @nikerunning app, and trained with guided runs, with the one and only @coachbennett. His coaching quite literally changed so many of my mindsets on running (and honestly, life).

One of my very best friend’s @kgracemanguiat knew both of these things.

So around Christmas time we were gathered to watch the survivor finale. But Grace told me we had to watch something else first…

It was this cameo
from Coach Bennett
speaking to my survivor dream.

I don’t think I have ever felt so seen and loved in my entire life. To have friends who treat your wild dreams as destiny and not delusion… what a gift.

A year and half later,
an application video finally worked
I got through the casting process
trained in every way I could think of
and I finally got to play Survivor.
😭

And I find the words in this video more true than ever-
“It was the journey to the place that changed you”.
