✨20 years✨

20 years since Freedom Fields was released makes 20 years since I bought my first @sethlakemannews album.

I remember clutching my portable CD player on a coach in the Morrisons car park, awaiting a class trip to begin, listening to “1643” in my headphones. I remember thinking that I had to google what happened in 1643 when I got home so I could understand the song. I was a little ball of joyous energy & didn’t speak to anyone until I’d listened through half a dozen times. I don’t remember where we were going.

Yeah, I’ve seen Seth more than is probably reasonable 👀. BUT! What a privilege it is to have the freedom and means to support my favourite musician to play live music!?

As a teenager, I wouldn’t go to see him alone, so @robmaellou & @nicjohno kept me company for my 19th birthday in 2008. Tonight, sat alone on the front row, the lady next to me (who was having the Time Of Her Life dancing in the aisles) asked me where my friends were, “my friends aren’t big fans so I come on my own.” “oh, that’s so sad!!!” She said.

But it’s not sad. I’m thankful that I’m a person that will do things I love for the love of doing them. Don’t get me wrong, I also love going with others (shout out those that have kept me company over the years, or gone out of their way to come with me!) but I’ll never not buy a ticket for fear of going solo.

Because no one else will ever quite understand what it felt like to be sat on that coach in the Morrisons car park.

My first visit back to Lincoln in 3+ years. This may be the first time I’ve seen the cathedral without a scaffold on the west front. Forever moved by just looking at this beauty.
