While we were living with my parents this summer, waiting for our visas to come, I booked 4 days with a videographer (@rachel.b.hughes) and banged out over 50 videos.I post long form tutorials on YouTube once a week, and prior to this, I was locked into the hamster wheel of recording and posting on the fly. Down to the wire. “Shoot, I need a video for this weekend!” Type vibes. That’s not fun AND it doesn’t put me in the best headspace for creating and teaching.So, because I knew this move abroad (we moved to Portugal a few weeks ago) would require a lot of my energy and headspace, I knew I wouldn’t have time to create quality videos for my YouTube, so I booked a few days and banged it out.We also got tonnnns of iPhone broll content (like this one!) that I can use for YouTube shorts, reels etc. all in 4 days!We’d start shoot days around 9:30 and finish around 3/3:30 and the reason we were able to record over 10 videos in one day is because I know the subject like the back of my hand.I’ve been teaching watercolor for over 10 years online. Specifically for beginners. With a little bit of research on Google Trends to get ideas for topics and timing, we were able to keep organized and in flow and pump out some of my favorite tutorials yet!We kept things fresh too AND weaved in a few handlettering videos, some oils pastel/mixed media stuff and plein air painting.So if you haven’t yet seen some of the new videos, go to YouTube.com/jennaraineychannel and check em out!🧚🎨 by @jennarainey

Why we moved. Posted this on the tok this week and thought I’d share here. Still figuring out how I want to show up on these social media places…there’s so much I want to share it kinda gets overwhelming.If you’re wanting art content, I still post it from time to time here. I’m using this space here to help express my natural evolution, which includes a lot of creative content if you look beyond the surface. by @jennarainey

1. Mix more than you think you need to!2. Some color combos may seem like they’d be gross together, but those are usually the best ones.3. Try using a contrasting color to mute or de-saturate a color. Black just gives it a black tint but green with red, for example, will keep the purity of the color intact while making it more muted!🚨Comment below with “mix training” and I’ll send you my full video (free!) on color mixing tips!! by @jennarainey

Japan blew our minds. Feels like a totally different planet in so many ways. The colors, the signage, the vibe, the cleanliness (there’s no trash or graffiti pretty much anywhere!)…it’s truly a special place. by @jennarainey

Just got film back from our 4 months in Japan, Thailand and Bali. While I’m still actively processing this whole adventure we’ve been on for the last year and a half, I’ll be sharing some of the core memories from our adventures and the stories behind them.🇯🇵JAPAN: had some of our FAVORITE food from the entire trip, John and Myles went “Pokémon hunting” at a few card shops and retro game stores and I couldn’t get over the SIGNAGE.🇹🇭 THAILAND: boats, coconuts and papaya salad mostly😍. It was a much needed restful few weeks between moving and packing suitcases every 3-4 days🇮🇩 Indonesia: where Myles’ had school for 3 months, we continued with our daily coconut habits and did some of the best snorkeling everrr by @jennarainey

No tour guide, no GPS, just following directions from locals down bumpy, gravel roads to see beaches that haven’t been discovered by mass tourism yet. I will be keeping these spots hush because I believe in being a good steward to the land and the people here, but sharing to hopefully encourage adventure!! This was the best day of our lives and so many more to come on this wild adventure we’re on. Trying to find a balance between being present and off social media, but also sharing to keep you guys updated and inspired to go after the life you want when things aren’t working or are suffocating.
