Growing up, whenever I was asked who my role model was, I always talked about my grandpa. You lived through wars, brought our family to America, and were always there for everyone unconditionally. If you were lucky enough to meet him, you knew he treated everyone like family. I hope one day I can become even half the person you were. You were such a role model to me, my dad, Dean, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing you. I’m just so grateful that I’ll always get to see a part of you through my dad. He’ll carry the person you were with him for the rest of his life, and in that way, a part of you will always be with us. You were the most genuine soul, and through such a long and hard battle, you never stopped smiling or worrying about everyone else before yourself. It breaks my heart knowing you’ll never get to watch my greatest accomplishments in life, never get to see me get married, and knowing I’ll have to spend more of my life without you than I got to spend with you. This has been the hardest thing i’ve ever been through in my life, but more than anything, I pray you’re finally at peace and no longer in pain. Anyone who knew my grandpa had a story about how incredible of a person he was. You took people into your home when they first came to America, made sure people who couldn’t afford food had something to eat, helped people get their lives started here, gave people jobs, and even helped people get homes of their own. You gave so much to so many people without ever expecting anything in return. The word selfless doesn’t even begin to describe the kind of person you were. Growing up, you would always take Dean and me to the corner store and wouldn’t let us leave until we had enough candy that we could barely even carry it all the way home. us allways making fun of my dad and you yelling at him for allways “bothering me”. I’m so grateful I get to carry those memories with me for the rest of my life. Until we meet again. everything i do has allways been and will continue to be for you.
