The power of music in bringing people together is unparalleled.

‘Community’ might not be a ‘cool’ word, but it sure is something magic.

Props to @maxpoynormusic @theeverythingcomplex @mattbawtree for making the magic happen @thecastlemanc #grassrootsmusic #grassrootsmanchester by @jennclemp

Just 3 days to go until we launch our debut Pop Festival 😬😬😬

What started as an idea to celebrate the diversity of talent that comes from our community is about to become a reality, and I have to say I’m pretty chuffed with what we've created.

Over the past few weeks, I've had the privilege of seeing most of the pictured artists perform live, and the quality, creativity and diversity across the programme has been exceptional.

If you'd like a preview of what's in store, I've put together Spotify and TIDAL playlists - links in bio.

We're approaching capacity with over 500 tickets sold!! 👏 FREE to attend, but tickets are required, so if you'd like to come, now is the time to book!

performing for @bbcintroducing @rncmlive are @hamishishish , @roisemusic , @bodyroot_ , @dobbo_music , @elingrace_ , @harrylines , @bartzagame & @izzy._taylor , @_.lulagold._ , @spiritofalthea , @m0li.official by @jennclemp

And here they are. RNCM presents the artists showcasing throughout the day as part of our collaboration with @bbcintroducing Sunday 21 June @rncmlive . I've created some playlists of their releases, on Spotify (boo) and Tidal (yay), linked in bio.

4 weeks TODAY, we’re doing something we’ve never done before.

Every crevice of @rncmlive will be filled with popular music for a full-day FESTIVAL celebrating new artists, and the incredible talent inside this building.

Historically a classical conservatoire, we have spent the last 15 years quietly building the UK’s only 4-year Pop Music degree, and a community of talented musicians who meet, form bands, and make amazing music together.

Extra specially chuffed about our collaboration with @bbcintroducing to share all of this.

Pop artists and bands - despite common belief - don’t just appear from nowhere. They’re cultivated in communities, through opportunities, and through people believing in them.

This festival is a celebration of that.

21 June - a diversity of music across 3 stages spanning acoustic folk, acid jazz, alt-electro-pop, progressive punk and more - all completely FREE (but with a 🎫)

Super proud of @celebtronicpr @damianhmorgan and wider team for bringing this to life.

Come check out the artists shaping the future of UK music. @toastclub @hamishishish @xl.poncho @roisemusic @bodyroot_ @dobbo_music @elingrace_ @harrylines @izzy._taylor @bartzagame @_.lulagold._ @spiritofalthea @m0li.official @lottieeegray @sampendrill @mateo_musiccc @iona.gray.official @theodgmusic @lucyellenmusic @bandfushigi @theeverythingcomplex @thepriorr

Manchester…come discover your next favourite band.

This Thursday we takeover @yes_mcr. If you’re interested in the acts shaping the future of music, this is the room to be in.

Headlined by @vacantweekend - “a trio of school friends turned indie-rock revolutionaries… starting to kick up a buzz” - recent gracers of @bbcintroducing at Maida Vale. Expect funk-driven grooves, bright 2000s indie hooks, and brilliantly tight musicianship.

Big ones-to-watch @xl.poncho are all bold, attitude-packed vocals and punchy, high-energy instrumentation. Honing their sound in their living room, making songs that sound unmistakably like them, no “fancy gear” required. Watching these guys creativity and momentum build has been genuinely thrilling…

@bbc6music one to watch @elingrace_ features earlier in the evening with soulful indie-folk shaped by jazz and classical influences. Her second EP lands this year (I’ve had private SoundCloud preview on repeat - privileges!) which will break your heart and mend it all within a 3 min track.

We also have newcomers Ta-le, lead by @christianholyoake bringing infectious experimentation.

Managed by the mighty @damianhmorgan 👑

Love Is Christmas, by Sara Bareilles. My favourite Christmas song, more meaningful this year than any other. “Love is not a toy” - you can’t make pretend with it, you can’t wrap it, it’s not conditional and it’s not just for Christmas. Like a puppy, if you will!
Thanks @sarabareilles for this beauty of a song that gets me out of my musical hermit cave every year. #nojudgementplease #rougharoundtheedges #loveischristmas by @jennclemp

I’ve had the very best of intentions to write a heartfelt Christmas thank you to all my professional connections and friends that I have worked with, either again, or for the first time this year. But as it often goes at Christmas time, our family has struggled for time, space, the ability to think clearly, and hit by impending grief and loss. This year, sadly, my list of loved ones who are close to my heart and high on my list of concerns is longer than ever. And I find myself anxious about whether I will be able to be strong enough for them all.

So, instead of crafting an articulate and professional seasonal greeting, I’m writing a personal one, in acknowledgement that whilst I’m sure we all endeavour to keep our professional lives separate from our personal mess, oftentimes it’s just not possible.

My professional realm this year has given me strength, and greater confidence in belief in myself more than any other year of my life.

So for that, to all of you who know who you are, I am deeply grateful.

Wishing you all a Christmas period that meets your needs, whatever they may be. Sincerely. by @jennclemp

Thank you so much to @pathwaysintomusic for having me in the discussion on qualifications for music industry outside of formal education, and for another superbly curated and meaningful day.

I wildly scribbled notes from arrival to departure - about:
- Teaching entrepreneurship earlier on in secondary music curricula
- The need for better communication between professionals across the sector - all stages of education, youth club managers, all sectors of the industry…
- Reframing the perception of what it is to be a teacher/educator to practitioners, musicians and industry professionals
- The deep need for tangible outcomes and clear pathways for both prospective music students and parents
- The requirement for education to be nimble to keep up with industry advancements
- What resources are beneficial and impactful in music education and where the gaps are
- How we should preach more about the array of transferable skills music degrees bring, even if the final destination is not music making or even creative
- And how project based curriculums are the most effective way to bring real world experience and therefore meaningful learning outcomes for trainee musicians.

At @unconventionhub the previous day I asked the panel discussing sustainable careers in music what there was to be optimistic about in portfolio careers…

I was looking to reach beyond the narrative of the s**t reality of soulless functions to make money and of artists having to do more and more themselves to avoid paying others. Recently I’ve felt a lot of bleakness about the future of the music industry. BUT, we cannot be defeated by the systemic challenges of these times and specific challenges to our industry. Now is the time to think more creatively, but also for pragmatism, and smartness that goes beyond just knowing stuff and knowing people.

One of my favourite books of my children’s, ‘All The Ways To Be Smart’ says “smart is not just ticks and crosses, smart is building boats from boxes”

It’s no longer time to talk about the problems. We are all too familiar with them by now. It’s time to be SMART. Tell new stories. Be imaginative. Think outside of the box. Be brave. by @jennclemp
