Well, twelve books. I can’t believe it’s over. There’s a thirteenth, but it’s a collection of short stories ABOUT Cradle, not a proper Cradle book. I mean, I’m still reading it (duh bitch) but it’s not the same. Anyway. This was actually my least favorite of all twelve books 😬 I don’t know why! These books were INSANE!!! I had so much fun reading them!! And I mean, what was he supposed to do, literally keep writing forever?! Yes. That is what I wanted him to do. That is the only way I would have been satisfied. There was just too much going on to wrap up ELEVEN BOOKS worth of story in one final book. I needed sooooo much more Abidan. And soooo much less Mercy. And I would have liked just a touch more…I don’t know, like point? I mean there’s tons of points! But I would have liked it to get a little more hammered home that the whole Might Makes Right is maybe not the best way to live? Or that the billionaires were literally destroying the entire world? Oh sorry, I spelled Monarchs wrong. Regardless, I had a BLAST reading these, I am so so so so so happy Emily led me to them!!! #engelbrechtreads2026 #engelbrechtreads by @jennengelbrecht

Well, this was book eleven. ONE LEFT. I can’t believe it. I can honestly say that I have literally NEVER had this much fun reading a series of books. Ever. I love all the characters SO MUCH. (Except Mercy? She’s so boring. I wish something had happened to her and we got Pride instead, he’s so much more fun. Or even Charity!! Remember how much I hated Charity?! I love her so much now!) But this story in particular was definitely Dross’ story. I straight up SOBBED. As soon as I realized what he was doing (c’mon, everyone knows someone who pushes people to throw them away) I knew he was in there. I just love Lindon so much. I want to buy ALL twelve of these books just so I can go over all my highlights and annotations for the rest of my life. These books are so good yall!!! SO GOOD!!! (Except for Mercy. Well, it finally happened. This was still a five star read, but for the first time, I didn’t love this book more than the previous one 😱 I mean, I still totally loved it!! I was just confused as hell and I think I wasn’t supposed to be, so I’m not sure he’s planning to clear up anything about the labyrinth later. But that was most likely just me. And spoilers alert but let me just brag that I knew about the twist way back in Soulsmith. Yes, I changed my mind every few chapters of every single book but it still counts. I LOVE THIS SERIES. #seniorsunday This was Dub’s school picture one year in Guam so he must had been what, two? I don’t know. That’s too much math. Daisy was born there so he was around two sometime. At the risk of sounding like a bot, this was another five star banger in the series for me. I listen to a podcast (of course I do) while I walk the dogs and she says some of the people she hears that don’t like these books either don’t like the Abidan stuff (which is insane bc I love that stuff so much) or else sometimes it’s people who play a lot of video games so they find the constant leveling up repetitive and since I have literally only ever played Stardew Valley and you don’t level up in there, I don’t get it. This series is FIRE. Is that still a thing?
This book was HEART WRENCHING. I loved every single page with Ziel. Spoilers but I thought the Dross stuff was completely flawless. Yerin and her master’s sword?!?! What a kick in the nuts. And Lindon’s fucking family?!?! I have hated them from book one page one, and I hate them to this day, especially his dad. I wish the Titan stepped on them. I wish he stepped on everyone except the people who immediately said yes to Ziel. And yall Mercy is so lame. She is such a dud!! She’s like the most boring wet blanket of this entire party, where is he going with her story? I feel so bad for her being surrounded by such fun and cool friends. I mean, I guess nine books in I trust Wight to have something for her, but c’mon, what is she doing. Was this the best one yet? ABSOLUTELY. But honestly yall, we are eight books in. I can’t review these anymore bc unless you’ve read them, you won’t have any idea what I’m talking about. Eight books is a lot of information. Just know that every single thing that happens is absolutely perfect. Either it’s exactly what I *wanted* or else it’s something I didn’t want to happen, but the way Wight wrote it was a THOUSAND TIMES BETTER than what I thought I wanted. Do you have any idea how it felt to have to eat my ‘fuck Charity’s? I mean, she still sucks but damn if she didn’t come in during the clutch. And Yerin and Ruby is NOT what I wanted AT ALL but it is somehow SOOOOO PERFECT I just love it so much. I LOVE THIS SERIES. But the bloopers- WHERE WAS SURIEL?!?! I know I say this all the time but I don’t even care anymore- this is the best one yet. EACH ONE GETS BETTER. My fave line comes from Northstrider: They would rather see a field reduced to ash than see someone else have a bite to eat. Now if that doesn’t sound like the bunch of assholes running this shitshow we are living in, I will eat my own sword, as my beloved would say.
Speaking of my beloved, spoilers but if Yerin had lost that round, I would have been FURIOUS. I get that he’s the chosen one and this is his story, blah blah blah- Yerin has been training since she was like seven years old. Every single day. And she’s about twenty now, so let’s say thirteen years. He’s been training for the past four (??) years. He’s had a LOT of power ups, and he’s got Dross, I get it. He’s a super guy. But there is NO WAY he should be better than her! Honestly, I’m a little mad it was that close! Her hard work should count more than his good luck!!! I don’t want him to still be weak, and I guess fire is a pretty dope skill, but Yerin is 💯
This entire book was a super fast fun ride from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down. This series is AMAZING. I LOVE IT. FIVE STARS. For this book and the entire series. Every single book is a straight banger. I cannot believe I only have five books left. All the fall new releases about to hit shelves?
