We have another BIG Marshal update! ❤️

The feeding tube is OUT.
The trach is OUT.
And all of the drains from his brain/head are officially OUT! 🙌

Marshal is still eating soft and puréed foods for now, but we’re hoping he’ll be cleared for more regular foods soon. The best news is that he’s eating enough on his own to get the calories and nutrition he needs without the feeding tube — another huge win!

And now we’re starting to hear something we’ve been hoping and praying for since this nightmare began… talk about going home. ❤️

Rehab evaluated Marshal and, because he is doing so well, they don’t feel there is anything he currently needs from inpatient rehabilitation that can’t be done independently or through outpatient therapy.

Behavioral Health and some of his other care teams are also comfortable with transitioning his care to an outpatient setting.

At this point, we’re waiting for Trauma and Neurosurgery to come to an agreement about when he is medically ready to leave the hospital. That could happen as soon as the next day or so, or it could still be up to a couple of weeks. We’re trying not to get ahead of ourselves, but just knowing that going home is officially part of the conversation feels incredible.

It’s hard to believe how far Marshal has come. From the PICU, a ventilator and trach, feeding tube, brain drains and multiple surgeries… to walking, talking, eating on his own and potentially continuing his recovery from home. ❤️

There is still a lot of healing ahead — physically, neurologically and emotionally — and we know recovery from a traumatic brain injury doesn’t end when you leave the hospital. But today, we are celebrating just how incredibly far this kid has come.

One tube at a time. One drain at a time. One milestone at a time. And hopefully, one step closer to HOME. 🏠❤️

Keep going, Marshal.

Today was another big day for Marshal. ❤️

Marshal had surgery today to replace his forehead plate, and we’re so thankful to say that everything went well!

He was understandably really nervous going into surgery, but he handled it like the incredibly strong kid we’ve watched him be throughout all of this. Tonight, he’ll spend the night back in the PICU so they can keep a close eye on him. If everything continues to go well, he should be able to return to the Neuro Trauma Unit tomorrow.

Marshal still has a drain in place to help remove excess fluid from around his brain. Now that surgery is behind him, the team is hoping to begin slowly weaning him from the drain to see how his brain responds and whether it can regulate the fluid on its own. We’ve been told that after a significant brain injury, sometimes the brain can continue producing or accumulating too much fluid and additional treatment may be needed. We’re hopeful and praying that won’t be the case for Marshal. ❤️

Another wonderful piece of progress is that he’s using his voice more and more every day. Hearing him communicate and watching more pieces of his personality come through has been so encouraging.

Considering everything this kid has been through in such a short amount of time, he really is doing so incredibly well. There are still hurdles ahead and plenty of healing left to do, but today was a BIG step forward.

Tonight, we’re celebrating a successful surgery and another milestone in Marshal’s Miracle. ❤️

Thank you for continuing to pray, love, support and cheer this amazing kid on. Keep going, Marshal. 💪❤️ by @jenni.fitzgerald

Green Chiles and cheese sourdough and a regular sourdough loaf. The green chilies and cheese loaf was delicious. I made a grilled cheese with it ❤️🍞
I did crispy it up a little more than I had planned but it still tasted amazing. #sourdoughbread #sourdoughbaking by @jenni.fitzgerald

Another Marshal update with some pretty exciting wins today! ❤️

Marshal has officially been approved for soft foods! And perhaps even more exciting to him — he was finally able to enjoy a little Mountain Dew! 🥤 After everything he’s been through, it’s so good to see him getting to enjoy some of the little things he loves again.

He’s also making progress with his communication. He’s doing a much better job using his words to tell everyone what he needs and wants. We’re still working on a little patience and remembering to be polite along the way. 😉 One step at a time!

He worked incredibly hard in physical therapy today and continues to amaze us with his strength. He’s now able to walk around on his own without assistance, as long as he has his helmet on to keep his head protected. Seeing him up and moving independently is such an encouraging milestone.

The next big step we’re hoping for is surgery on Friday to replace the portion of his forehead bone that was removed following his injury. He tested positive for rhinovirus last week, so his medical team is still evaluating whether he’s healthy enough to safely move forward with surgery. We’re really hoping his body is ready and everything can go as planned.

There are still a lot of unknowns and a long road of healing ahead, but right now we’re choosing to celebrate every bit of progress — soft foods, Mountain Dew, finding his words, walking on his own and getting a little more of Marshal back each day. ❤️

Keep sending all the love, prayers and positive thoughts his way. This kid continues to show us just how strong he is.

Keep fighting, Marshal. ❤️ by @jenni.fitzgerald

Marshal’s Miracle, Day 9:

Marshal continues to be super strong and is healing at a very fast pace. The black & blue in his left eye is nearly already gone. He gets surgery to put his forehead back in place tomorrow morning.

Most of the challenges in his healing journey may come due to the brain injury he has sustained. Changes in his personality and his overall ability to control impulses will be things we will have to learn about together going forward.

The past 2 days have been a little harder for Marshal. He’s pulled out his feeding tube twice. It’s been replaced ❤️ His helmet hurts him while wearing it (without his forehead bone), so it’s kinda slowed the rehabilitation a bit.

His new room seems to be a much more comfortable place, though. He’s handling it all like a champ 💪

Again, thank you so much to all who have supported Marshall, Jason and their family ❤️🙏 by @jenni.fitzgerald

I want to brag a little about this guy right here ❤️ I met Jason on December 1, 2025 and I’ve been smitten 🥰 ever since. Jason thank you for being the strong supportive man that you are. Thank you for all the little things you do for me… Always opening EVERY door, carrying everything, helping me around the house, preparing meals, picking up all of my shortcomings on days that I’m dealing with Fibro pain. Thank you for being the amazing bonus dad to my kiddo. Thank you for being patient and supportive with my mom 💕 I don’t know how I found you but I’ll be forever grateful that I have. You’ve blessed my life in so many ways. You’ve been an inspiration to me daily and I’ll strive to always be better for you. You are my 🌙. I love you forever long time ❤️ by @jenni.fitzgerald

My best friend and partner is currently living every parent’s worst nightmare and he needs all the love and support he and his sweet little family can get. Jason’s oldest boy, Marshal was shot Wednesday night and is currently in the neuro ICU at Primary Children’s Hospital. Jason was laid off from his software engineering job in May and due to AI changes in technology, he has had a very difficult time finding work. His savings have dwindled over the months and now he and his family will be hit with huge medical bills. Please help if you can, share if you can’t. Every little bit helps. I love you, Jason, Marshal and family ❤️ by @jenni.fitzgerald

I made my first loaf of sourdough bread all by myself. 🍞🧈 I created a starter (which I don’t recommend doing. Just buy one). I also bought a starter. A week later I started making my first loaf. It took about two days. I’ll forever be grateful for a loaf of sourdough as I now know how much time goes into it. ❤️ by @jenni.fitzgerald
