A few weekends ago I had the absolute pleasure of attending the wedding of the thoroughly gorgeous @alikahncomedy & Del. Ali and I met at a recall audition, going for the same role (she got it) and immediately hit it off. We have become pals, pen pals if you like, and I was thrilled to be able to celebrate her and Del’s special day with all their lovely, welcoming friends. Hardly got any snaps cos I was too busy having fun! And I was so engrossed in all the moments of Ali & Del that I didn’t even think to pick up my camera and capture it. What a totally wonderful day, for the most deserving couple. Wishing you both a splendid Honeymoon!! ❤️ by @jenniferariesactor

“Good things happen when you go outside”, said a wise friend of mine.For many years, I have been writing scripts for film and TV, staying inside, honing draft after draft, working with brilliant directors and producers on Zooms and calls, during long spells of development and even occasionally, production.These great people have taught me a lot. I’ve seen my words get turned into something on screen, but only from a distance. So, a few months ago, when it came to deciding who would direct the short film I’d co-written with the original Vinney White, I didn’t stay inside; I got off my laptop and I went outside.A week ago, I produced and directed my first film. A short one, obvs. But a film nonetheless. I took some more advice from another wise friend, who said: “Surround yourself with competent people.” (Amen to that!)‘DEMENTED’ is a poignant comedy drama about three dysfunctional adult siblings who are caring for their mother, who has dementia. It’s based on the real experiences of my co-writer, and it’s written in a way that we hope will make you laugh, snort and cry – but not because dementia is funny (it isn’t), but because the situations it forces us into can be ludicrous and farcical, and the family dynamics that ensue can be – well, let’s just say that I think you can relate.We shot it in 2 very exhausting, intense days, but days that I will never forget. There was such a vibrant, happy buzz about the place and an energy that is hard to describe – perhaps this is normal on set, and perhaps I have only ever felt it from afar, but it was special. Only time will tell what we’ve created, but one thing is for certain: there was comedy and there was drama on this comedy drama set, and I loved it.Thank you, all the brilliant cast, crew and everyone else for coming along for the ride. 4 years ago the lovely Jade @actingwithasha asked me to join her on her podcast to chat about my experience in the biz so far. So often we hear interviews with people that are household names but there are lots of us normal folk just out here grafting without recognition. And that’s ok. You don’t need to be a megastar (though I’d gladly take it!) to be a success. Since this interview, I’ve changed agents to the brilliant @wintersons_ @jessicajonesagent , got new headshots, and gained more credits and experience. I’m still doing it, and still loving it. That feels pretty successful to me. Even if you don’t want to listen to me prattling on, go check out her podcast. **EDIT ** (I genuinely didn’t post this for praise, I just found this picture from the weekend and it made me feel quite reflective 🥹 Thank you for being lovely to me in the comments!! But I’m mainly glad I did post cos I have had a fair few Mums in the same boat DM to thank me for sharing something that resonated. And anything to help people feel slightly less alone can’t be a bad thing.)I don’t often post stuff to do with me and the kids. But those that know me well know how we’re pretty intertwined. Single motherhood is hard, can be ugly and uncomfortable but ultimately, between you and me, I actually think it’s pretty awesome. Over the years I’ve become a master in biting my tongue, trying to constantly establish boundaries, picking my battles, have fun when I don’t have any fun left in me and you know what? With the help and support of “my village” (you know who you are, thank you, I love you all) we’re doing pretty good. I’m really proud of these two young women I see growing up before me, and can see it’s all worth it. #motherhood #mumslife #mumofgirls by @jenniferariesactor
