Minimalism, but make it a ribbon.

Embracing a simple life, yet adding a totally unnecessary ribbon for a dash of charm in my mornings. Makes me smile. Turns a plain jar of nuts into a little treasure.

Some might call it inconsistent. Can YOU see the logic?? 🎀🤷‍♀️
What’s that totally unnecessary daily joy?

Did you know “priority” didn’t have a plural for about 500 years?
It meant the one thing that came before everything else.
(Not five random things. Or ten..)

So why is something on your urgent list?
Maybe because it’s been on your mind for ages.
Maybe because someone else said it was.
Or maybe just because it’s been there so long it feels rude to move it.

So leave just the stone in your shoe on the list. 🪨
The one that needs sorting now.
Tell the others: hey, you can wait.
Later is fine. Later is a thing.

The rest will still get done. When you have time. Not RIGHT NOW.
You’re just stopping them from guilt-tripping you and pulling your focus from the one that matters.

Priority. Let’s make it singular again.

Or not even “can”.
You have to.

When the voices get too much. Other people’s opinions. Their wishes. Their vibe.

So press pause for a while.
Sometimes it’s a couple of extra minutes in the bathroom. For no reason.

Sometimes it’s getting back to people days later.
Sometimes it’s a permanent block.

You’re your own availability secretary.
Take it seriously. 🚪

Would you hire yourself for the job?

When did grinding your own coffee beans become something we’re all supposed to do?

Not that long ago, boring was allowed. Ordinary homes. Ordinary food. Special purchases were planned for ages, dreamt about, and one day, if you were lucky, they happened.

Now the world seems to spin a whole lot faster. The bar we’re meant to reach has been hung so much higher. Your life should look like a success story. Your home should be beautiful down to the last detail. You, or preferably your partner, should be a foodie who’s very into cooking. Your coffee has to be made to a particularly high standard. Maybe you grind those speciality beans yourself. You’ve just been on, or are about to go on, some special trip to somewhere nobody’s been yet, which you can tell friends about. And making all of this happen means you’re probably always in a bit of a rush.

If this life feels just right to you, enjoy the ride. This is your era. But if you’re thinking “eek, I can’t keep up”, you’re allowed to slow down. And you’re definitely not alone. There are lots of us 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

I’ve been there. I tried to fit myself into all of it. I went on a wine course. I practised (!) being more sociable. I tried to keep all the plates spinning and enjoy life at the same time. Smile. “This is how it’s supposed to feel.”

But it felt like wearing borrowed clothes. The kind everyone can see through. It didn’t feel like me, and despite all the effort, I never quite pulled it off gracefully.

An empty feeling. Like I was just about keeping my head above water.

In the end something in me went: nope. We’re allowed to do it our way. Our own special edition. To make things easier. To cook basic food. To drink supermarket tea. To like wine and still have no idea what our favourite grape is. To do all of the above without feeling cheap. And to not fit in.

What’s the simple, unfancy side of you that you are stubbornly proud of?
