Prick in the House of Idolatry present “RECLAIMED”

RECLAIMED explores the nuance and extremes of reclaiming all aspects of the feminine archetype. This show transmogrifies discarded items into beautiful relics through fashion and jewelry design. Witness the interplay of structure and viscera, the cyclical nature of rebirth: from mother to child, from flesh to bone.

This collection was born of a meeting of two highly creative minds matched with polished technical skill sets intent on raising the creative bar. It’s been an exploration of unconventional sustainable, dead stock, and recycled materials driven by a passion to create something truly inspired. The cold, fluid, elemental nature of the metal juxtaposes to the considered, often architectural, tailoring to create a line that is truly unique.

@prick_in_the_house_of_idolatry is a collaboration between Abigail of Prick Jewelry and Branimira of House of Idolatry.

Abigail Poplin is influenced by the protective side of nature, and its evolutionary demonstration of what was required for any being to survive; the work is both alluring and brutal. The distinctly feminine energy combines with the provocative, confrontational and aggressive nature of the work, creating a sensory experience laden with intention. @prickjewelry

Branimira is a fashion designer and maker, harnessing chaos into wearable expression since 2000. @hoi299

NOCTURNA, now in our 38th year, is an 18+ dark alternative dance night held once every other month or so in Chicago. DJ @scaryladysarah spins a highly request-driven mix of current & classic goth, darkwave, industrial, post-punk, deathrock, ethereal, new wave, ebm, & more. It’s a lot of fun & you should go! Come DANCE UNTIL DAWN at the longest-running goth club night in North America and amongst Chicago’s denizens of the dark!

Yesterday I said my last goodbye to a very dear friend. He was a kookyass-prankster-mad scientist-seeker-artist-visionary pain in the ass. I spoke at his service but it was hard af to get any words out, much less the “right” ones. I’m thunderstruck by the loss ocourse, but buoyed by the love and hugs and blood that were shared. To that strongest of ride or dies @ivygoingham, I freakin love you & look forward to sharing some jewelry with you soon. To my friends I could squeeze, thank you. To those I couldn’t: i love and miss you always. Here’s what I wrote last night in a feverdream of trying to elucidate the lightning rod that Jason was:

Many of us met Jason through his intense mad scientist marriage of art and engineering. He was a technician who was able to come up with a crazy bad idea, and then use his skills to make that into good art that could move about in the world. He brought forth some incredible creations, like the beloved Gyroscope which was enjoyed by people from around the world, his intricate masks that left jaws on the floor, and his deceptively simple sculptures that hold so much movement and energy. He lived his life AS art. We all know what an absolute prankster Jason was, and how funny he was, but I’d also like to remember his emotional intelligence. In intense situations he knew whether someone needed a joke to lift their spirits, or a supportive word to help their worries fly away. He cared so deeply for his friends on a physical, psychical, and spiritual level, and I know that many of us here today, and many that are unable to attend from around the world, consider him our brother, as our chosen family. So your chosen brothers and sisters salute you Jason, and we will miss you, but we carry forth your legacy in our hearts, our laughter, and our shenanigans. Goodbye. by @jennocide13
