It’s hard to believe that three decades have passed. In some ways, it feels like yesterday, and in others, it feels like a lifetime ago.

I was pregnant with my daughter when Mom passed away. I remember the heartbreak of losing my mother while carrying my own daughter—a time when I needed my mom more than ever, and yet I was about to become a mom myself.

My son was only four years old. He was so little, and although he had some memories of his grandmother, he never got the chance to really know her as he grew up. And my daughter never got the chance to meet her at all.

That has always been one of the hardest parts for me.

Thirty years have brought so many changes, so many memories, and so many moments when I’ve wished I could pick up the phone and call her. There are still things I want to tell her. Still moments when I think, “I wish Mom was here.”

But I also know that she lives on—in me, in the stories I tell, in the memories I carry, and in the love I’ve passed down to my children.

Mom, 30 years later, I still miss you. I still love you. And I still wish you could have been here to see it all.

Thank you for giving me the gift of being your daughter—and for being a part of my life that time can never take away.
