Waking up this morning to sunshine and a temp of 65 felt like a dream! It had been so hot and gross the past week so it really felt like a gift! Aaron texted me from the yard (where he was up to his usual morning yard things.. Squirrels, birds, books, coffee, old dirty weights) He asked if I wanted to take a walk with Dan and also pop into our local thrift before we started our workday. Immediately YES! As soon as Danny saw me putting on “outside the house clothes” he knew something was up. I said “Yep! Yes you are! You’re coming too!” I’m not kidding when I say that going thrifting is one of his fave things to do. The older ladies that volunteer at the thrift shop always have us unzip his stroller so that they can pet him and tell him how good he is. (Check my stories for a lil vid of him at the thrift today) After thrifting we went for a lil walk and it was exactly what we needed. Before we know it summer will be here and that Jersey Shore humidity will do its best to ruin the fun. As for the first two pics here, I snapped the first one this morning. The sun shining in the window and lighting up this corner was just so nice. It just felt really calm and nice. Decor wise it’s a really simple little vignette. Nothing on the table but the lamp. The plain black nesting tables are awaiting some decorative painting, and we kept the wall art to a minimum. A large abstract I had done and some vintage paper mache rabbits atop some gold scrollwork shelves. Not sure if this is how things will stay but it feels good for right now. The second photo is the very same corner. Last summer, when we first moved in. Just as an Aaron’s Dad “ Skip” had it. It’s hard to believe we will be here a year. Ahhh anyways. Our lil sentiment cake stickers have been popular this week! I’ve packed up way more than usual. It’s always interesting when one particular item in your shop seems to be showing up on invoices a bunch! Remember when we would get very excited about strawberry season or peach season? And didn’t have to worry about soaking berries in vinegar or baking soda water? 😑 I feel like my entire feed is people telling me to worry about strawberries, viral dot cakes, and kool aid pineapple entrepreneurs. 🤪😆 Tell me what you keep seeing in YOUR feed. I love hearing about other people’s feeds and what the algo is showing them ha. Ps. It’s wooden berry, peach, and banana season in our studio! And don’t worry! No need to soak! This week it was in the mid 90s here on the Jersey Shore and this weather has us both flashing back to this time last year. We had just lost Skip (Aaron’s dad) and were preparing to move into the family home. A house full of memories and belongings. To say that we were overwhelmed is truly an understatement. We did our best to take things day by day and task by task while still allowing ourselves to feel it all. It is exactly one year ago this week that we were painting the walls and floor of our current bedroom. It feels forever ago but also so recent. For the first five or six months we went nuts with house projects. Clearing out old furniture, painting all of the floors upstairs, decorating rooms (just enough to hold us over), fixing a big gap in the studio moldings (the full scallop trim project will be in a future post) tarring a leaky roof, experiencing the truly lethal power of Easy Off oven cleaner, and a million other things. But then we sorta just STOPPED. Of course the workload of the Holidays was a factor but we probably got emotionally overwhelmed too. Anyway, we recently jumped back in again and have like three or four home projects starting, a bunch of old stuff to donate, and with the perspective of a year gone past we have a better understanding of how changing this place and making it our own is the best possible tribute to Aaron’s parents. And oh yeah, our day job is also in full swing lol. We have summer on the brain (see cotton candy👆) and at least a half dozen plaques in the works that we are very excited about. “A Party In A Box” We loved designing and painting this piece! Vintage food packaging is truly one of our biggest inspirations. From the branding, cute imagery, the color palette, fun tag lines, and side panel instructions, we tried to include all of our favorite aspects of packaging here on our cake mix box plaque.
