This weekends Open Studios will be the last time I show these large paintings. They are from my time obsessing over garden stakes whose contorted forms remind me of dancers. Making them satisfied my graphic design side and I liked the exploration of color combinations.

Visit me this weekend @artspansf Open Studios. Yosemite Place is having a kick-off party on Friday with live music and a short dance performance 7 pm @zacchosf). It’s also a chance to have a preview of the studios. Come by studio 370 and say hi.

I worked on these this summer. And since my color palette is starting to shift I thought I’d share this grouping. The ongoing Filter series consists of hand dyed paper, graphite lines and a wax ground. A few of these I’ll be exploring further with scale up and different materials.

Filter Series: All art is a response to something — an object, a memory, scent, even weather — seen through the artist’s own filter. Each artwork in the Filter series distills the essence of a moment in time. Swatches of texture, color and transparency are collaged to communicate the elements of an experience. As change occurs and time dissipates, what is left of that moment is an abstract snapshot, the remains of what filters through.

My intention was for this to feel like a textile but instead it looks rather like a Cholla skeleton which I have sketched many times through the years. Perhaps many of my works are a combination of visual influences and inspirations from my everyday.

I’ve been returning to older series recently and I’m slowly figuring out how to move it forward. This series about weaving looms was started in 2018. I think the loom is an exquisite object/tool and is an endless source of inspiration for me. Here are a few recent works in this series which I’m happy to be showing with my friend Josephine in her beautiful shop, @purple_maroon on 24th St. in SF. There is a connection to Josephine’s clothing design as well as the pottery by @maria_made_a_thing
These are difficult to see in photos so if you’re in the neighborhood please stop by.

Refreshed and revived. That is what a @sierraclub backpacking trip can do to you. As an organization I admire their environmental advocacy, which we desperately need, and they lead backcountry trips that are spectacularly beautiful, dramatic and challenging. The Sierras never disappoint even in multiple hail storms it grabs your admiration, attention and gives you a good dose of awe.

“Sidewalking” is on view through June 26 and features work by @sasinun_zohm and me, inspired by the beauty of San Francisco’s sidewalks.

There will also be opening receptions in several other galleries @minnesotastreetproject
