POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Palm Beach Gardens fiber artist Jennifer Noelle Hernstadt (@jenoellecreates) discovered crochet at an early age. When she was 8, she purchased yarn and hooks at a neighbor’s garage sale, determined to teach herself the handicraft typically popular with an older crowd.

Now, her fiber art has been showcased at numerous art venues and charity events in the area, including The Society of the Four Arts, the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, and the National Alliance for Eating Disorders’ annual Valentine’s Day fete.

Cake is the answer, no matter the question…..especially when it’s a GIANT crochet cake!!! 🎂🧶

This was such a fun piece to create …the idea for this design started with the theme “Pink Waves.” Of course I knew that I had to use lots of pink yarn, but to tie in the “waves” part, I decided to crochet the bottom layer using the “layered shell stitch pattern” by @naztazia . I thought that this was a great fit because it looks like waves!

Once the bottom layer was complete I slowly worked my way up and decided flowers would give it a sweet touch…I didn’t really have a plan in mind I just kept crocheting flowers and pinning them on the cake until I was happy with how it looked!

I’m not sure exactly how many hours it took to crochet this, but if I had to guess it’s around 40 hours….and a fun fact…I only used “I Love This Yarn” by @hobbylobby and my 4mm clover crochet hook! This cake is huge! Swipe to see me holding it! Keep in mind I’m 5’10” ☺️

This is the main piece of an entire tablescape of crocheted cakes/desserts I made for an all female art show. The installation is a part of the Pink Waves art exhibit by @firstfemalepb @thecuratedlook @thickpaint and is displayed with works from 22 female artists at @thepeachwpb the rest of the month!

I love crocheting sooo much! 💖💖 I have been crocheting 6 years now, but only recently started designing my own patterns! I’m super proud of how this turned out and it’s super exciting to see the smiles it puts on other people’s faces! I hope you enjoy it to!

These little crochet hearts have quietly become my go to travel project the past several years 💘

Every time I travel, not only do I pack tons of yarn but I somehow end up stopping at a Michaels, yarn shop, or even Walmart and picking up a couple skeins of variegated yarn “just in case.” By the end of the trip, I’ve usually made an entire pile of hearts along the way 😅

At this point, even my family has started spotting & buying variegated yarn for me for future heart projects whenever they find it!!

I love that multicolored yarn makes every single heart turn out differently but the colors flow perfectly!!….They’ve become one of those projects I keep coming back to over and over again.

Lately they’ve ended up everywhere….attached to bags, tucked into little handmade gift bags for birthday parties, and occasionally handed to random people while traveling when they ask what I’m making on the plane.

(Also… featuring a few crochet cookies from my recent pattern release hiding in the background & last pic 🍪)

Now I’m debating whether I should finally put together my own version/tutorial for these because they might be one of my favorite little scrap yarn projects I’ve ever made.

Would you want one?

A few days ago I fell down an Internet Archive rabbit hole looking through antique crochet & needlework books from the 1800s…and stumbled onto a section about adding beads to crochet work.

I’d seen modern bead crochet before, but had never actually tried it myself. That immediately sent me digging through my great aunt Bee’s old bead stash that I’ve been holding onto for years. Most were too small to work with…but a handful of turquoise, brown, and blue seed beads ended up being perfect.

After making a tiny test swatch, the idea escalated very quickly into an entire loopy bag 😅

The bag itself is based on a design I’ve had on my website for a while, but this version was made just for me. I used cotton yarn throughout, then double stranded cotton thread into the top section so I could incorporate the beads as I crocheted little heart details into the fabric.

Honestly…this is my favorite kind of creative process. One tiny spark of inspiration turns into experimenting, making a mess, pulling out forgotten materials, changing plans halfway through…and somehow two days later you’re carrying around a beaded crochet bag inspired by an 1800s instruction book.

Anyway…I’m kind of obsessed with how it turned out 💙🩵🤎

Sugary sweet heart cookies… but make them calorie free. 💕🍪🤭😋

These were designed & made on my birthday while sitting in the Dominican Republic last December ….which still feels kind of surreal looking back at these pics. 💝 Sometimes when I’m bored or looking for crochet inspiration I generate AI images of crochet confections & that’s where these heart sugar cookies came from!

The last couple pics are screenshots of the AI inspo, there’s also scribbled notes of half-written instructions, and lots of crochet goodness. I love when something digital turns into something tangible…something you can actually hold. The process is spontaneous, comes with lots of trial & “frogging” and is so much fun!

Happy Valentine’s Day 🤍 May it be sprinkled with sweetness in every form. Maybe I’ll end up adding sprinkles to these!

Last September, this crochet Amour Cannes bag came to life. September in Cannes has become a yearly rhythm—slow mornings, long walks, and near-daily trips to the #marcheforvillecannes for fresh produce. Market bags are a must, which makes them a perfect project to crochet each year.

This design grew out of collected screenshots and visual notes saved over time (see the last few slides). Hearts are my favorite shape, so the inspiration, location, materials on hand & timing turned into this bag!

The design phase is always the most exciting part: messy, spontaneous, and constantly evolving. One decision leads to another, and suddenly there’s something that didn’t exist before. Something entirely its own. And that’s the joy of the creative process—letting it unfold, trusting it, and watching an idea quietly become something tangible. 🧶❤️

This piece will always make me smile because of the story behind it. The final pictures were not taken in Cannes but at @hotelducapedenroc when the piece was finished. Every other part was crocheted in Cannes.

This past Saturday I attended “D’ART for Art”, a fun & festive fundraising event hosted by @lighthouseartcenter . I’d known about this event for months & that the theme was Nautical Nights.

My friends (all artists) who were attending with me LOVE a themed party and go all out!!! They’d been sharing outfit ideas in our group chat for weeks…Did I chime in? Plan an outfit? Even think about what I’d wear until 10am that morning?
Absolutely not. 😂

Saturday morning I was knee deep in my current hyper fixation project … finishing old WIPs (aka the pile of unfinished crochet projects I’ve accumulated over the past 8 years — which you’ve been watching me slowly lose my mind over in stories 😅).

I was adding the final details to a crochet walrus that had been in the works for a couple of years (from the book #aquaticamigurumi by @natura_crochet )… turned the page just past the “Triton The Walrus”… & stumbled on patterns for starfish, shells & little fish. My thoughts….(in order)
Super cute… hmmm…Inspiring…hmmm…oh no…
Immediately I thought, maybe I’ll make a few keychains and hand them out at the event!

I pulled yarn from the “unravel” WIPs pile I’d already sorted and got right into crocheting little ocean treasures. Then… 💡….another…even better idea….I remembered a crochet net/market bag I made 3 years ago from a French crochet pattern book sacs shopp!ng au croche. I ran to grab it, laid out the shells, and suddenly it looked like a fishing net. Now I was in full swing inspiration mode!

After panic-crocheting until the very last minute, I had a one of a kind, nautical-themed piece of art to accessorize my outfit with.

No plan. Very last minute. Slightly chaotic.
Just repurposed crochet, a nautical vibe, and wearing the art instead.
And honestly… I’m kind of obsessed. ⚓️🐚✨

Noelle # 5
This piece was created for Fiber Optics, a group exhibition at the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County in Lake Worth Beach, and it feels extra special for a few reasons. Originally inspired by the idea of a classic French fragrance (yes… a little nod to Chanel No. 5), I quickly realized I wanted to make something that felt more personal and uniquely mine. So instead of recreating an iconic bottle, I freestyled a large, vintage inspired crochet fragrance complete with a crocheted atomizer sitting on a bed of cabbage roses, one of the fragrance’s key notes. The entire piece was designed and mostly conceptualized while I was in France in September, which naturally shaped the French inspired color palette and details.

The name Noelle number 5 became a full circle moment….a play on the fragrance reference, my artist name, and the fact that this was my fifth art show—and my first gallery setting alongside 20 plus incredibly talented female artists from Palm Beach County. Made with 100% acrylic yarn, touches of gold shimmer, and crochet thread for extra detail, this piece represents a lot of growth, trust in my process, and gratitude. Having my crochet in galleries still feels a little unexpected, and I love that. Even though this show just wrapped (yes, I’m posting after…..hello procrastination 😅), I’m so thankful for the experience, the community, and the continued evolution of my work.

When plans fall through but the universe redirects you in the best way ✨

A friend and I ended up in Hobe Sound, FL by accident last week after our original plans fell through. @magdaloveart happened to spot a little gallery with a woman inside surrounded by crochet right when we were heading our separate ways. I didn’t have time to stay that day, but I looked up the gallery @thebaileygallery & the artist @jeila.art and discovered she was setting up for her solo exhibition & had an opening reception last night — so we went. And wow!

Jeila Gueramian’s show at Bailey Art Gallery was full of color, movement, and upcycled textile magic. There was an entire underwater room with crochet jellyfish, starfish, and treasures hidden in every corner. She even had these beautiful reimagined textile pieces layered with beads and stitching surrounded by crocheted frames. It was one of those exhibitions that reminds you why you fell in love with fiber art in the first place.

Feeling so inspired and grateful for these unexpected little art-world moments. 🧶

French Kiss 💋🌸
Currently on view at the “Fiber Optics” exhibition at the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County (Main Gallery, Lake Worth Beach, FL) — now through January 3, 2026. @palmbeachculture

Inspired by a month-long stay in the French Riviera, this piece was mostly crocheted in the south of France using yarns gathered from a small shop in Cannes @lamercerie.cannes . Its palette comes from the pink sunsets, coastal hues, and all the colors that surrounded me there.

Before becoming known as a fiber artist, I spent nine years as a makeup artist. Creating a landscape of crocheted lipsticks feels like a full circle moment, blending my past profession in beauty with my present love of crochet.

The initial spark for French Kiss came from an AI-generated image I created of crocheted lipsticks. I used that digital concept as a jumping off point and translated it into a fully handmade work of art. For me, AI isn’t a shortcut; it’s simply another tool for dreaming up new possibilities in crochet.

Grateful to share this work as part of such a beautiful exhibition. ✨ I have one more piece on view at Fiber Optics which I will share more about soon!
