I had to hold you in a certain light,
to look you over,
so I could study your flaws.

You're beautiful,
and it doesn't matter what's torn,
or loose,
whats faded,
and dying.

I'll take all of it,
and admire it,
and speak highly of you,
so others may see,
what I see.

I doubt they will,
because most want perfection
with no work involved,
so they can say,
"What you see is what you get."

I find people who stick to this philosophy as being shallow minded fucks,
Unable to appreciate, or see the true beauty of what lies underneath.

I want what you are,
and who you are.

and if that means you're a decaying mess being held in the sunlight by someone who understands the vulnerable parts of you,

then so be it.

At least they took the time to understand you,
or they tried anyway,
before you faded away,
but never forgotten,
because there are images of you,
at your best,
and worse,

And I wouldn't have it any other way,
because you're perfect,
in my eyes.

I've been enjoying my morning walks,
sipping on a hot cup of coffee,
that becomes lukewarm,
and quickly becomes an ice-cold cup of hate within minutes.

"Where did you just go?" she asked, "What?" I said as I shook off the random thoughts in my head. "Where did you go? I was talking to you as you were working on stitching the holes in your hoodie, and you stopped replying, and I looked up, and you were so deep in thought, so I decided to remain quiet because I thought I was bothering you, but that wasnt it all and now I'm curious about what you were thinking about.

I looked down at my hoodie and backed up at her and said, "You know that trip I went on a few years ago? The one where I went out west, as a last-ditch effort to rekindle something inside of me because I felt lost?"

"Yes," she said and reached out for my hand.
I took it gently and pulled her close.
"I was thinking about that. I was thinking about being out there and how happy I was in those moments. I thought of all the times I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and challenged myself with every opportunity I was given. I scrambled up a hundred feet of rock face with my best friend so we could look out at the front range of the Rockies, and we did this after a four mile hike to get there. I remember the elevation and how easy it was to get there since I was still in shape from my bike packing adventure before going out there."

I paused and looked out over the small field of tall dead grass, at the growing tips of golden rod, and at the deep purple of the new england aster. I watched as pieces of fluffy white insides of the milkweed pods took flight in the wind, almost like they were carrying my thoughts and dreams with them.

So I went back to mending the holes in my hoodie and thinking. by @jerbalc
