Time to scale-up. #wip

I guess this current series is made up of ‘still lifes’ but I think of them more as portraits.

The vintage toy motif started out as a transitionary project. Recent work has been
anchored in a sense of place and the human connection with architectural spaces; it
was mild social commentary tied to the location of my studio @turpsstudioprogramme . Moving away from there, to a new space, it no longer felt authentic to make paintings so closely allied with that environment.

However, the more I work with these mid 20th century objects, the greater the connection with that earlier work. Common themes surface, the chief among them being change (always accompanied by winners and losers). There’s too much to fully articulate now; there are more possibilities here than I originally imagined. by @jeremyscottstudio

After a busy month with shows, it's back to the studio 🎉 3 new paintings on the go with 2 waiting patiently in the wings.
These follow on from the carousel & mule images, based on mid 20thC toys. They're sort of about forgetfulness/memory but definitely not nostalgia. Ideas around consumerism & other stuff I can't yet articulate are also there.
I guess they are still connected to the Aylesbury Estate paintings - the bright new world that never quite turned out as planned.

Insolvent brings together painting and installation that explores slowness, hesitation, and inefficiency as forms of resistance. Made inside frictional lives – including artists from the Turps Studio Programme – the exhibition considers art-making as a stubbornly human and imperfect activity, rejecting the demands of productivity and depthless perfections.
