A few months ago Mars was invited to see a reading for a unqiue horror play called We've Got Spirit and now the time has finally arrived for it to start its run Off Broadway!

In anticipation, we interviewed playwright @jericobleu about his inspiration for the play, the themes surrounding the LGBTQ+ community and the church, and of course...what is his favorite scary movie?

The performances take place October 22-31 at Theaterlab located at 357 W 36th St. 3rd Floor, New York, NY. Tickets can be purchased at the Theater Lab website.

‼️TONIGHT‼️
We’re joined by writer/performer Jerico Bleu and cast from his upcoming Theater Labs production “We’ve Got Spirit”- an off broadway show that’s set in rural Tennessee in the early 2000’s.

The story follows employees working at a Spirit Halloween store. The team welcomes a new member named Damien, a conservative young man whose family previously owned the building back when it was a local church.

The plot intensifies when one of the store’s team members becomes the target of a hate crime, forcing the group to barricade themselves inside the shop. The play explores the real-life fears, vulnerabilities, and survival instincts of southern LGBTQ+ communities, alongside the deep-seated paranoia surrounding the end of days.

We’ll be discussing the process of putting this production together, how their love for horror influenced the play, social commentary, why this show is a must see, and more!

In addition, we’ll be recapping our NYCC experience!
