When Latoya Hamilton and Nicole Barrett met in Portugal, they didn't know that their paths had almost crossed before; the two women attended the same high school in Jamaica. Their friendship grew quickly with their cultural and professional backgrounds creating the perfect foundation for the creation of their first Jerk and Wine Festival held in June. The idea grew from something they recognized in both Jamaican and Portuguese culture: a shared love of gathering, eating, drinking, and celebrating together. “One thing Jamaica and Portugal definitely have in common is that they both know how to throw a great festival,” the duo shares. “It’s just part of the culture. In Jamaica, there’s always a food festival, a jerk festival, a music festival, or a community celebration that brings everyone together. Portugal is exactly the same.” It was definitely a vibe with more events planned for the future. Today we’re celebrating the island that gave the world jerk, reggae, and unapologetic rhythm. 🇯🇲 One of our favorite things about Jamaican culture is the way it brings people together. Put some jerk on the pan, a little Bob Marley in the background, and somehow we all end up in the same place with the same familiar feeling. With old friends and new ones. Even here in Portugal, we bring that unmistakable Jamaican energy wherever we gather. Happy Independence Day to the island that continues to show the world how to come together. by @jerkandwine
We’ve been cooking up something special for the next Jerk & Wine... but until then, here’s a little throwback. Still can’t get over the energy, the food, the wine, the music... and all of you who came out and made it such an incredible day. Trust us... you’re going to want to be at the next one. 😉 Who’s coming to the next Jerk & Wine? by @jerkandwine
WOW. It’s been one week since the very first Jerk & Wine Festival Portugal has ever seen, and we’re still taking it all in. To every single person who bought a ticket, showed up, danced, sang along, enjoyed the food and wine, laughed with friends, and brought incredible energy from start to finish — THANK YOU! It was SOLD OUT, with a waiting list, and it’s all because of YOU. ❤️🔥 The love and support we received was overwhelming in the best possible way. This event was created with a vision of bringing people together through authentic Jamaican jerk, amazing Portuguese wines, great music, good vibes, and community. Seeing all of you embrace it the way you did reminded us exactly why we started this journey. A huge thank you to our amazing performers: 🎤 @xavierblk for keeping us all on the dance floor 🎤 @kennycaetano for serenading us on the saxophone 🎤 @fancy_dominant from @DynamicLegends for the high energy that kept us moving 🎥 And a special thank you to the talented @shauntelangelica for beautifully capturing the spirit, energy, and unforgettable moments of the day through photo and video, allowing us to relive the magic long after the festival ended. 🍷 The day would not have been complete without the amazing wines and partnership of @rocim.universe and @winewithbruno. Thank you for helping us create a unique experience that perfectly blended both cultures. 🌟 To our incredible staff and team: thank you for every challenge solved, every guest welcomed, every detail handled, and every effort made behind the scenes. Your helped to make this event what it was. Special thanks to @rumandtickles for providing the venue space that helped bring this experience to life. Most importantly, thank YOU, our community. The atmosphere, the excitement, the dancing, the laughter, and the positive energy came from you. You made the very first Jerk & Wine Festival an unforgettable experience. We couldn’t be more grateful for your support, your enthusiasm, and the love you showed throughout the day. Make sure you’re following @jerkandwine so you don’t miss what’s coming next. This is only the beginning. ❤️🔥 by @jerkandwine
