[arcological theatres]

This was my first ever exhibition in Vancouver and what an awesome experience it was to have family and friends be able to come through. Thank you to @ngu.photos and @dialogdesign for this event!

This was a really fun collection to curate with @elsiechaan. It explores the resultant light from structures and how they spotlight people rather than just focusing on the structures themselves. I feel like these photos are the best representation of my current style and personal aesthetic.

The full set of exhibition photos!

Thank you to everyone I met this week and to all the friends that came through! I was so insanely inspired by countless artists. It was an amazing experience and I can't wait to do it again.

For anyone in Tokyo or around the world, if you want to exhibit, please reach out to @benedan__ who runs this amazing @tokyo_streets_24 event! He's an amazing person who puts so much into this. Hats off to him for fostering such a cool community event!

Happy to finally show this piece! This debuted as a cover page for @massmagazine_ and is displayed in my first exhibition with @tokyo_streets_24.

This image summarizes a lot about what I love about street photography. A concentrated combination of happenstance and readiness.

A woman happening to be there, a train happening to pass by, and I by chance was just getting off the train to meet up with @epalalic. Shout out to the Ricoh GRIII for booting up so fast.

This was also shot the day I was returning to Vancouver for my grandfather's funeral so there's just a lot of different feelings in this picture for me. Just thankful for the opportunity to show this.

Whenever I'm back in Vancouver, @ceenceef and I like to head up to our alma mater, Simon Fraser University, to shoot. It acts as our benchmark of how our skills have improved and if we can see the same place in a new light each time, acting as a creative challenge.

I joke that SFU Burnaby is a photographer's heaven and a student's hell. For a photographer, the architecture is unique, the light can be amazing, and there's a stunning mountain backdrop. But as a student, especially through the winter months of endless grey skies on grey concrete on top of schoolwork, this place sucks pretty hard.

For this set, I directed Chris on the shots and modelled which I'm not particularly good or comfortable at. Definitely want to improve more on both of those so when I'm shooting other models I can give better directions so they can be more comfortable in their craft as well.

Alternatives I was really considering for exhibition back in Vancouver, but ended up passing on either from too simplistic or too similar. Still really happy with these shots from a quick morning shoot at DDP. I think my critiques for each would be:

1) Great subject and tension between subject and the railing shadow but overall the image was quite flat with no interesting shadow.

2) Nice, obvious, and visually satisfying framing but setting was quite bland.

3) Great pose but bot a particularly interesting shot outside of the minimalism.

4) The perfect shadow line across two levels was really compelling but overall didn't interest me as much as the selected option where the "V" shape was shown.

5) Visually interesting swoosh and curve from the concrete at the top right but shadow framing was basic and the mirror was too distracting. I think if there was a perfect subject reflected in the mirror I'd be more inclined to select it but didn't end up feeling it.

Hope that was interesting for my thought process! Honestly all of these would have been fine but wanted to be quite selective and intentional. by @jermspang
