The goal: controlled efforts, consistent pacing, and finishing with something left—not racing every rep.

One workout won’t guarantee a PB. But stacking consistent weeks? That’s what I’m betting on.

Four things that have made me a faster runner

Volume. Building mileage gradually and showing up week after week.

Threshold work. Learning to keep the effort controlled so I can put together consistent sessions.

Fueling. Taking food and carbs as seriously as the workout itself.

Recovery. Letting easy days stay easy instead of turning every run into another test.

These are the habits I’m carrying into the next goal: taking my 1:36 half marathon toward 1:29.

Can more cycling make me a faster runner?

That’s one of the things I’m testing during this build.

I’m chasing a sub-1:29 half marathon, but I don’t want every bit of aerobic volume to come from running.

Gravel gives me another way to build the aerobic engine without adding the same impact to my legs.

Will it actually help me go from 1:36 → 1:29?

We’ll find out.

Why run long when you’re training for a half marathon?

Because 21.1 km still rewards endurance.

Threshold work gets most of my attention in this build, but the long run is what keeps building the aerobic base, durability and ability to keep working when the legs start getting tired.

The goal isn’t just to run faster. It’s to still be running fast at km 18, 19 and 20.

1:36 → sub-1:29.

Goal: sub-1:29.

I’ve got seven-plus minutes to find.

This build is going to be threshold work, long runs, mileage, recovery and a lot more cycling than I’ve used in previous running builds.

I’m going to document the workouts, the numbers, what works, what doesn’t, and whether I can actually get there.
