This past week I had the honor of hosting the @fishingvision crew from JAPAN 🇯🇵 here in New Jersey 🇺🇸 to shoot an episode of their show SALT DREAMER! Angler @suzukihitoshi_official and his two man crew worked extremely hard the entire 4 days we had them on the water💯

DAY 1 we got offshore for bluefin (BFT) and yellowfin (YFT) tuna. We had to search far but found great life and hooked BFT on a popper then YFT on the jig ✔️ ✔️

DAY 2 we ran deep again, finding perfect life but the fish said no. We pushed on and were able to find YFT mixed with two tone dolphins. @suzukihitoshi_official had a few great strikes on his popper but couldn't come tight. 0-4 Saturday.

DAY 3 After getting a solid NJ/NY midshore experience the first two days, the guys wanted an opportunity to tangle with BIG fish. We setup for inshore BFT and got a bite within 10 minutes of fishing! Respectfully, because it wasn't on his rod, @suzukihitoshi_official chose to let my mate @christopher_americano tangle with it- we shortly after broke the fish off as I was trying to get a harpoon ready and did a shitty job on the wheel. Hours later I was able to get another bite on a more manageable fish however the NLBN hook opened up and pulled 15 ft from the boat! That was it for day 3.

DAY 4 we stayed committed to the big BFT game plan running on fumes. We got to the grounds just about all alone at first light and had a bite within the first 15 minutes. @suzukihitoshi_official went to work and proceeded to do battle with an estimated 85"-90" fish for the next hour and change--my mate for the day @ckulp446 had to help on the rod then the harpoon shot and we thought he stuck her, however the dart pulled after a few minutes and shortly after we broke the mainline. Third heartbreaker in two days! Unfortunately we didn't get another bite on Monday--the south wind started cranking before the tide change and the afternoon bite never materialized. Overall, I can't say I'm not disappointed we didn't put a big BFT on deck for Suzuki and team however I am proud of what my mates and I were able to show the guys here in NJ. Hopefully it translates on camera well and everyone can get a chance to watch! 🙏🏻 taken in New Jersey by @jerseycoastcharters

The uncooperative bluefin we found late last week decided to amp things up finally! Good variety of size, but mostly 40-60", and of course those giants lurking. Starting to see some jig bites but most, recently, have been casting for us. Running and gunning and on the drift around where we are seeing fish. Can get em on squid too sometimes when ya find the bait and feel like drifting. Definitely keeping our fingers crossed this blow doesn't shift things too much, but either way we'll find em again soon! 💪🏻🩸

Rewarding bite today for Tyler and his father Rob! They stuck with us after a skunk last season and put in the work for redemption this year. Tyler hooked up on the Nelbin and they gave it the tag team slam! First tuna for Tyler and on the light spin gear!!. Congratulations guys 💪🏻🤙🏻

@frank_madaia never put the rod down yesterday and was rewarded with a sick top water eat on the gorgeous Deep Seductress! This fish, coming in at only 53", dumped near half of a spool on the new Stella 25k almost immediately. Talk about adrenaline! Won't soon forget that bite. Thank you guys 🤙🏻👊🏻

Sitting out today and tomorrow with NE wind in the forecast-- looking like we may have a few spots available this Monday 7/13 due to a charter rescheduling.

First bluefin trip of the season was a success yesterday. Two popper bites to kick it off properly! Saw a lot more than we caught, which isn't unusual for fish that are new to an area around the moon for a day or two. Stoked nonetheless! Thanks @paquetm and crew for hitting the send button! 💪🏻

Properly bleeding tuna when they hit the deck results in much higher quality meat in the end-- how we do it is a tiny poke with our @clean_kill_co spike or bleeding knife four fingers behind both pectoral fins. The key to this is not going too deep so the blood flows out and NOT in!

We are in the depths of winter here in the North East however we are in full prep mode for the upcoming 2026 season! We will be striper fishing April and May, and transitioning to tuna in full force by mid June!

We wanted to give everyone a heads up that June-September prime tuna dates are filling exceptionally fast this season, especially weekends with only a few dates remaining.

This year we are pre-planning a few OPEN BOAT Jig and Pop tuna trips for those that are not available on short notice. These trips block off 2 days, then as we get within a week of the trip the captain will make the call which day the trip will run. If you would like to get on one of these you need to be flexible for both of the two dates posted for the trip. The dates are as follows;

July 14/15, FULL
July 28/29, 4 spots available
August 11/12, FULL
August 25/26, 4 spots available

These trips run $625 plus gratuity for the mate. Generally 3am-3pm ish, leaving from Shark River NJ.

Full boat Charter Rate for tuna is $2,500 plus gratuity for the mate.
