Hello! I’m Jessica (Jes) Lemke, a 4th year medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical school working as a plastic surgery research fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with the Dr. Samuel Lin lab.

This summer has been full of incredible new experiences— both professionally and personally! In Minnesota, I passed STEP 2 and completed my home program’s sub-internship. Interacting as a member of the department that developed my interest in this specialty and that I have shadowed for years was a perfect place to leave off before departing for Boston!

Following this, I’ve had the opportunity to present research at conferences alongside friends and colleagues and I’ve explored new cities along the way! In Boston, I’ve become close friends with my co-research fellows and collaborators and I’m excited by the projects we are working on. The opportunity to devote undivided time and attention to research in this area is an incredible honor!

Outside of medicine and research, I’m continuing to fill time when possible with the people, places, and things that make life so special. In June, I ran my second marathon alongside my mother for the 50th Grandma’s marathon and I have continued to knit and crochet. I’m currently knitting a sweater for a friend and have began making Knitted Knockers for the organization!

As I reflect on the past several months, I look forward to all that is to come and hope to use this account as a platform to share and connect with others in the field! by @jes_lemke
