Devastated. I’m lucky to have known you, Braden Pontoli, and already miss you so much. Thank you for your grace, your understanding, your generosity and for sharing your many talents with us. In some rough times, you were so loving and supportive of me, and I will never forget these kindnesses. What will we do in Keiju without your leadership? Rest in peace and divine harmony, stellar being. ❤️ taken in Finnish Consulate by @jess_basta

Such a wonderful experience for Aeris - singing with LACC at the Hollywood Bowl under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel in the debut performance of Michael Giacchino’s “Hymns of the Heart” (Aug 20, 2026). So proud of all of them. The kids surprised Dudamel with expressions of love and gratitude as he prepares to move on from the LA Phil to NYC . He will certainly be missed. ❤️ taken in Hollywood Bowl by @jess_basta

Meet Jess‼️ Jess sings with us in the choir and is an unbeatably talented musician with a rich contralto voice and way above average sight reading abilities. I’ve seen her perform countless times over the years in many different projects. We are so grateful to be one of them 🖤🖤🖤

Jessica Basta (aka “Mess”) is a veteran singer, recording artist, composer/arranger, voiceover artist, and international performer whose practice emphasizes creative collaboration and experimentation. Distinctive and versatile, her voice can be heard on myriad recordings across all media, and as a performer, has appeared on stages and screens all across the U.S., Canada, and Europe — equally at home in local venues ranging from the Walt Disney Concert Hall and The Ford Amphitheatre to Zebulon and the Mueller Tunnel.

PS fun fact Jess and I (Krissy) met by performing together in a Shrek themed X-Ray Spex cover band called X-Ray Shreks 💚 by @jess_basta

I had a dream that I performed a beautiful piece about orchids, “Orchis (Book of Flowers)” by and with an incredible artist and human being, Sarah Rara… and it happened in a magical little puppet theatre nook in the Children’s Literature section of the LA Central Library. Orchid scents filled the air. Thousands of people were at the library to enjoy performances and activities, and some even had orchid faces… What a dream! @raraspeaks @dubfrosty @laphil (Insights) @laplphotos @artandolfaction (📷 of me by @legendofjessejane ) taken in Los Angeles Public Library by @jess_basta

Los Angeles performance May 2
Orchis (Book of Flowers) at the LA Central Library Downtown — joined by @jess_basta on voice!

Set Times: 7:30, 8:30, 9:30.

For the performance LAPL is reopening the puppet theater room in the children’s section, which has been closed for decades! A very special space.

There will also be a takeaway print / Orchid masks to paint and customize with the support of @heartoflosangeles

And an incredible collection of orchid-based scents by @artandolfaction and Saskia Wilson-Brown including one aptly named “Total Fantasy”

Thanks so much to @dubfrosty @laphil insights and the LAPL team @lapubliclibrary. A dream to perform in one of my favorite spaces in Los Angeles. The project Orchis (Book of Flowers) began in the science technology stacks of LAPL, and much of it was filmed there.

Orchis (Book of Flowers) is a performance for video, voice, and software that explores orchids and their connections to gender, queerness, politics, and desire. It traces natural and cultural histories of orchids, considering how orchids have been understood as queer-coded forms that resist categorization, while also functioning as symbols of military and economic power. The video component of Orchis (Book of Flowers) features books drawn from the Los Angeles Public Library’s collection. Through text and narration, the work unfolds as a journey through the stacks of the Central Library, a floral odyssey through conceptions of gender. taken in Los Angeles Central Library by @jess_basta
