The first two years of marriage really haven’t been much different than the first two years of dating, despite being separated by 18 years.

Both periods have been marked by new jobs, new addresses (who’s surprised?), a lot of travel, a lot of laughter, a lot of sporting events, and endless love and support.

@jayclewis - Thank you for balancing my relentless need for structure with your spontaneity, my constant anxiety with your calm confidence, and my need for dogs, adventure, and good food with your desire for the same three things.

Thinking back on our trip to Italy, I cannot be more grateful for how smooth it went and how wonderful all of the people we encountered were. I’ll say it again, the views were magazine worthy, the food to die for, but the people made the trip so memorable. We made many new friends including Greg and Nat, Giuseppe, Luis, Mateo, Mikayla, Paolo, Andrea, Viviana, Manfredi, Santo, Fulvio, and Lorenzo! Until we meet again. Arrivederci! When you love someone for over 20 years it’s fascinating to watch them change.

Some changes as tiny and seemingly inconsequential like the gradual appearance of silvery hair.

Some changes are bold and inspiring, like excelling at a new and unexpected career.

But perhaps what’s most fascinating are all the ways someone doesn’t change over the course of decades.

I didn’t know Jay during the first 30 years of his life, but I can say confidently, as he turns 51 today, that he is just as fiercely creative, curiously adventurous, and unafraid of hard work and tenacious grit as he was when he was 31.

Maybe he’s a bit more silvery, but I like to think that’s just what happens when nothing in life can’t dull your shine.
