We had a great weekend with friends and jiu jitsu! Colton had his first tournament as a grey belt and we are so proud of him. Our goals were to have great effort and attitude this tournament. After about a year as a white belt he is ready to learn a lot as a grey belt. Grey is one of the hardest belts to compete and his attitude and effort was awesome! He got a couple wins and earned 2 bronze medals in his 2 divisions. Cora competed one division (hard to get many 6-7 year olds under 40lbs!) and won gold! Both of them hit great Kimuras! Also so thankful for our teammates and coach @devin_miller897 coming up to coach them!! by @jess_farris

Day 2 (no Gi) was a sweep for Fort Farris! Colton and Cora won all of their matches and both took Gold in No Gi for their weight divisions and for their challenger divisions! They also had the 7th and 8th fastest submissions of the tournament (in 15.7 and 18.7 seconds!)! Then…our @fortifiedcombatsports team took home #1 as best team! We love our coaches and teammates! Thank you so much (as always!) to @devin_miller897 and @ahill1188 ! So proud of these kids and love our days filled with watching them grow and compete! by @jess_farris

A GREAT first day of 2026 Novice Worlds by @the_agf ! Colton won all of his matches and is now champion for the white belt 65lb class in Gi and Gi challenger! Cora won gold for white belt girls 40lb Gi, and got silver after a tough loss in the challenger division for Gi! They have worked so hard to prepare for this weekend and it was awesome to see all the success. Our @fortifiedcombatsports team also earned #2 for gi kids team and so far is #1 for best team (all the winning today from the team earning that title!). We are so thankful for @devin_miller897 and @ahill1188 for their coaching all year! Tomorrow is day 2 and the No Gi competition! Let’s get more Golds!! by @jess_farris

Cora’s first competitive gymnastics season is a wrap with celebrating Texas’ number 1 Level 1 team! She had an incredible season and so many highlights. The state meet was so great for her and she ended up number 2 in the state on Floor! She also placed super high on bars (4th) and vault(6th). She had her only fall of the year on beam at a meet at state, which is a bummer, but it happens…gymnastics is hard! We are so proud of all her hard work all year and looking forward to her future with the sport! Now for off season of continued practice and learning some new tricks! (Sorry you can’t hear the floor music the only way to see the floor was upstairs behind glass 🙄). by @jess_farris

Another step in the kids jiu jitsu journey tonight! Cora has been training 2-4 nights a week for about 6 months and competed (and won!) in two tournaments. She earned 2 stripes on her white belt! Colton has been training for a year and a half, with the last year being 4-5 nights a week! In tournaments Colton has continued to develop and is up to 22 wins! He earned his 4th stripe on his white belt! They both have worked hard and built great friendships. We are so proud of them! We are thankful for our incredible coaches @devin_miller897 and @ahill1188 !! by @jess_farris

We had an incredible jiu jitsu tournament day this weekend! Cora had her second tournament ever, and first tournament doing submissions. She won gold against a boy with two submissions! Colton competed in no gi and no gi challenger. He earned silver in no gi, and then beat the one boy that had beat him in no gi challenger for Gold! He had a take down where he was on top for the last 2 seconds to earn 2 points and take the win! We are so thankful for our coaches @devin_miller897 and @ahill1188 and our competition team at @fortifiedfitness_wptx! Also incredibly thankful for our wonderful friends that hosted us again for this tournament. Always so much fun with them!! by @jess_farris

Happy Birthday (a few days late) to our beautiful Cora! You are a beautiful 7 year old girl, and you light up our life! You usually wake up a little grumpy, work hard at school and sports, have a mixture of snuggling and sass in most days, and if we let you stay up past your bedtime you typically still put yourself to bed before everyone else. You are artistic, creative, a great reader and writer, and incredibly athletic. how are you good at so much?! We pray the Lord uses you in incredible ways with all these gifts he has given you. We are so thankful that God put you in in our family here at Fort Farris! by @jess_farris
