10 years today. How is that even possible?

October 1, 2016 is the day everything changed for me. A version of me left and never returned. No matter how much I prepared myself for the moment of losing him, I never could have been ready.

I never knew that grief wasn’t just going to be missing him…but also becoming someone new without him here.

A version of me that carries the love, the memories, & the ache…all at once. And some days I’d give anything just to be that old version of me again.

The one that still had my dad.

To know my dad was to love my dad. The jolliest guy! Everyone loved Jack Lee. In the last few years it has been amazing to me the stories that still linger on about him and hearing how people still cherish their time knowing him and loving him. I’m thankful to carry many of his traits and get to help his memory live on into the next generation with his grand babies. Though they didn’t get to meet him, I see a bit of him in each of them everyday. & that makes me smile! Every time I hear a Robert Earl Keen song, drink an ice cold Bud Light, cast a line, or cross paths with a Muy Grande buck - I can’t help but feel closer to you!
