I can’t quite believe I’m writing this… after TWO YEARS, I finally got to unbox my debut children’s book. 🥹📖

And this little book is so much more than a story to me.
It began because I wanted to create something to remember my beautiful Nanna by - something that could hold onto a little piece of her, of us, and the memories we shared.

Somewhere along the way, those memories became a story… and Nanna and I became Australian wombats. 🐾🧡
What grew from that is a story about courage, friendship, kindness and believing in yourself. But at its heart is something even more precious: the extraordinary role a grandmother can play in a little person’s life.

The way they guide us, make us feel safe, pass down their wisdom and give us the confidence to find our own way in the world.
My Nanna has since passed on, and I would give anything for her to hold this book. But perhaps, in a way, she is. She’s in these pages, in the lessons woven throughout them, and in the person I became because I was lucky enough to be loved by her. 🧡

It has taken two years, two illustrators, an editor, a beta reader, countless revisions and plenty of blood, sweat and tears to get here. I was an absolute perfectionist because this story was too close to my heart not to give it everything I had.

I’m also incredibly proud to share that absolutely no AI was used in creating this book. Every word, illustration and detail was created, drawn, edited and refined by real people - with human hands, creativity and a whole lot of heart. 🧡

To my wonderful illustrator Nina - thank you for bringing this little world to life so beautifully.
And Melissa, my lovely editor (and fixer-upper-er 😂) - thank you for patiently answering my hundreds of questions. You are an absolute doll, and I’m so grateful I found you.

And to YOU - everyone who has followed, liked, commented, shared or encouraged me - thank you. A simple like or comment helps this little book reach more people than you realise.

After two years of writing, rewriting, illustrating, editing, tweaking, questioning absolutely EVERYTHING 😂 and pouring more love into this little book than I ever thought possible…

Willa’s Courage Saves the Day 🐾

A story very close to my heart, inspired by the beautiful bond between a little girl and her Nanna - only in this story, we’re Australian wombats. 🥹🧡

It’s a story about courage, kindness, friendship and learning to believe in yourself, with a very special Nanna there to offer a little love and wisdom along the way.

There is SO much I want to tell you about how this book came to be, what inspired it and why these two little wombats mean so much to me… and I promise I will!

But today I just want to have this moment.

My very first children’s book is REAL. 😭📖

Oh hey, I’m Jess! 👋 I thought it was time to reintroduce myself…

I’m a children’s book author, champion daydreamer 💭 , singer🎵 , horse🐴 lover, and proud owner of far too many books (although I maintain there’s no such thing).

I wrote Willa’s Courage Saves the Day - a heartwarming Australian adventure about a little wombat who learns that being brave doesn’t mean you’re never scared. It means giving things a go, even when your knees are wobbling!

My stories are inspired by my beautiful Nanna, brave little hearts, grandparent wisdom and the magic hiding in everyday moments. When I’m not writing, I’m usually drinking coffee, planning a road trip, making a wildly unnecessary playlist or scribbling ideas in my trusty notepad.

Follow along for bookish fun, cute Australian wildlife, behind-the-scenes author chaos, a sprinkle of silliness and plenty of reminders that small people can do wonderfully brave things.

This is the magic of storytelling.

I may write the words, but once a story is in your hands, it becomes yours too. The meaning you find in it, the conversations it starts and the little moments that stay with you -that’s the part I love most. 🤍

And hearing what Willa’s Courage Saves the Day means to you and your little ones will never stop being special. 🥹

That’s when a story really comes to life. 💛

Helping isn't always doing. Sometimes it's staying close while they discover what they're capable of.
And yes... watching them struggle for 30 seconds can feel MUCH harder for us than it does for them. 😂
