A spontaneous “let’s go to Disneyland” turned into such a fun family day. 🧡 We missed Kaden, who sat this one out, but everyone found a little magic: Eric met R2-D2, I met Chewbacca, Steele saw stormtroopers and Spider-Man doing stunts, and Amelia watched Bluey and Bingo dance!

Lots of rides, escaping the heat whenever possible, and fall decorations everywhere, my favorite part. 🎃 So glad we said yes to this little adventure. taken in Disneyland/Califonia Adventure by @jessbmee

Happy 9th birthday to my bouncy, ketchup-loving boy. You are equal parts wild energy, big imagination, and pure creativity, with a tough little exterior protecting the most tender heart. You create your own worlds, draw your own characters, and have always had a way of being completely and unapologetically yourself. There is truly no one else like you.

I hope nine is filled with adventure, laughter, pizza, and probably way too much ketchup. I love you so much, Steele! 💙 by @jessbmee

Amelia at 4 and Amelia today at 10. She literally just walks into the room like this, as if every day has a Met Gala theme and the rest of us somehow missed the memo. 😂

It’s that time of year again. The shoes are white, the backpacks are clean, and the attitudes are optimistic. 😂

We switched things up this year: Kaden headed back to real hallways for 11th grade, while Amelia and Steele are tackling 5th and 4th grade from the couch in full pajama mode (snacks included). 📚✏️ by @jessbmee

The cruelest thing about grief may be how ordinary the world remains.

The sun rises. Messages still come through. Dishes wait in the sink. Somewhere, someone is laughing. Your entire world can change in an instant, and the rest of the world does not even pause.

I am no stranger to loss, but I have usually been the one standing in the wreckage. This week, I am learning what grief feels like from the other side. I am watching people I love carry something I cannot lift for them.

There is a particular helplessness in that. Love makes you want to fix what has no fix.

Maybe that is what I am learning. Love cannot always save someone from pain. Sometimes love is simply refusing to leave them alone in it.

Grief does not care whether the world considers a loss big enough. A family member. A friendship. A beloved animal, even one you loved from afar. Grief measures absence by impact, not category. The depth of it tells us only that something mattered.

I cannot stop the world for anyone. I cannot carry their grief in their place. But I can notice that their world has stopped. I can sit beside them in the stillness. I can refuse to rush them simply because the rest of the world already has.

To anyone standing in that stillness right now, I see you. I will not ask you to pretend that nothing changed.

Somehow it’s already August.

This summer flew by in the blink of an eye. Somewhere between adventures, everyday moments, and marrying my best friend, I forgot to post most of it.

Maybe that’s what a good summer looks like.

Here’s a little photo dump from a season that changed my life. I’m grateful for every bit of it.

Last weekend reminded me that love isn’t built in one big moment.

It’s built in conversations over sandwiches, kids making silly faces for photos, friends signing a record instead of a guest book, family eating pie together, and stories being shared around a room.

We dreamed of creating a celebration that felt personal instead of perfect.

Looking back at these photos, I don’t see perfection.

I see joy.

And after everything life has taught us, I think that’s so much better.

Huge thank you to all our incredible family and friends who celebrated with us this weekend. It was an afternoon filled with laughter, love, memories, wine, pies, and time with our favorite people.

Everything came together exactly as we imagined, and somehow even better. We feel so lucky to have shared this celebration with all of you.

Our little Arizona adventure was filled with incredible views, wildlife, lots of laughs… and approximately 47 family negotiations.

Turns out, when your kids get older, they don’t all want to do the same thing anymore. Weird.
But watching them become their own people is one of my favorite parts of being their parent.

I’ll happily take the chaos, the compromises, and the memories while they’re still willing to take these little adventures with us.

Some love stories don’t need a room full of people to witness them.

Ours needed trees older than memory, dirt beneath our feet, sunlight through the branches, and the kind of quiet that makes you feel like the whole world is listening.

We laughed. We cried. We stood beneath the Sequoias and said our vows in the most honest way we knew how. No performance. No rush. Just us, fully there, held by nature and by everything it took to get to this moment.

It felt sacred without trying to be.
Wild without being loud.
Simple in the way only the most meaningful things are.

A dream we got to live.
