I know that I love pictures of food, but I generally just use my iphone to point and shoot, hoping that the food will do most of the work. I recently spent the coziest of weekends in Vermont with a borrowed camera, a few inspiring women, and the opportunity to learn more about food photography (and for me, photography in general) at the glorious Poppy Bee Studios. We spent our time at a local apple orchard, bakery and restaurant and got to play, snack, take photos, and chat about life in Clare’s studio nestled in an old cotton mill with every kind of prop and backdrop you can imagine- basically heaven! I haven’t looked at pictures of food the same since 🍎📷 💃 @poppybeesurfaces

Always searching for the sense of community that I felt in the room last night at @tiltedbarnbrewery at the annual Show Some Love personal care drive. Last year, in my previous role as Social Service Director for Exeter my department suddenly acquired our local food bank. This wonderful group of women didn’t hesitate to jump into action, forming a volunteer committee to help me oversee day to day food bank operations, keep everything up and running, and most importantly-to treat each person walking through our doors with openness and respect. Last night I couldn’t have been more proud to stand alongside Representative Megan Cotter as she recognized and honored these women (and a few not pictured!) with citations from the State House.

(Part Two) An amazing friend who has known me for 35 years recently said, “You are not meant to be stagnant-trust the process you thrive in.”

I’m moving on from my role as Social Service Director and into a new adventure this month with the same curiousity, dreams and excitement I had 5 years ago…but I wanted to leave these thoughts and memories here.

(Part One!) Five years ago on a whim with only one day to decide to declare my candidacy, I put my name on the ballot for the Director of Social Services in my town of Exeter, and won! (Okay I had no opponents!😆)
I’ve had so much fun dreaming up new programs like a volunteer senior yard cleanup program, a no cost produce market supplied by our own farms, a free handyman service for the elderly- and many more (some successful, some duds). I’ve been honored to be part of community meetings, galas and fundraisers, and groundbreaking ceremonies. I got to run a food bank- and organize a parade!
I’ve sat with residents during their most difficult times- divorce, sickness, job loss, and life’s many inevitable challenges. I wrote grants to get them temporary help. I worked with gun clubs and Girl Scouts and churches and politicians and farmers (sometimes all in the same day) to serve these residents. And even though the job was to help my neighbors, it quietly supported me through many personal trials of my own.
I’ve built relationships in a town where logistics make it impossible to bump into your neighbors at the grocery store or bank- because we have none!

The 10th Annual Cranberry Sauce Competition results are IN,and @seane36 takes the win this year with his lemon, raspberry and blackberry curd cran sauce! When my brother and I accidentally both showed up with homemade cranberry sauce to Thanksgiving 10 years ago we obviously had to turn it into a cutthroat competition. We were then joined by other siblings (and my kid!) and a custom made trophy over the years. Welcome (and better luck next year)to our sis-in-law, @__jessiexo17__ who asked me how to get into the competition to which I answered “just show up with cranberry sauce, and don’t tell anyone”.

And just like that he’s off to start his second year of college! Who knew we get to raise these cool kids and they don’t even actually end up being ours to keep forever and ever? On the way home, I stopped and bought myself fluffy new towels, a cozy set of pjs, a fridge-full of healthy food and two powerball tickets.
