Super happy that @cultuurfonds is funding my project: Counting the SunWith this project, I am developing new work rooted in my personal experience with chronic illness and mental health. In the summer of 2025, I was diagnosed with CDLE (cutaneous lupus erythematosus), an autoimmune disease affecting the skin, for which UV radiation is the primary trigger. Around the same time I also got diagnosed with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) This diagnosis fundamentally altered my relationship with sunlight: what was once a source of energy and freedom suddenly became a risk and a limitation. In this project, I explore this transformed relationship with the sun. On one hand, I focus on the ways sunlight physically harms me and how this impacts my daily life and freedom of movement. On the other, I seek ways to approach and embrace the sun anew, both practically and symbolically. This tension lies at the heart of the work.♥️ by @jessenijmegen

Exhibition Opening in Amsterdam 10.07.26 (next friday)‘This Lutheran Loves You’ [Dutch title ‘Ons Geloof is Liefde’] narrates the remarkable story of the Lutheran queer community in The Netherlands, from the 1950s until now. Within this religious community, space has been made for the LGBTQIA+ community for a long time already. How did that come about? And what can we, as a society, learn trom it? On the occasion of World Pride, we take a closer look at this history, because it is a unique story that needs to be told! Discover extraordinary and personal narratives, told through archival material and the testimonies of a generation that can still recount them firsthand. With a photo series by Jesse van den Berg and an artwork by Stefan Elsen. Curated by: Lisanne Bouma. ‘We Carry Forward’ showcases the work of eight contemporary visual artists who explore the theme of ‘queer futurity’. In the exhibition, we question seemingly undisputed, dominant truths and make space for a multitude of perspectives, voices, and stories. How do queer lives, shaped through coded survival and collective care, produce alternative temporalities? Photographer and visual artist @jessenijmegen is dedicated to broadening the representation of queer individuals through lens-based media. Rooted in an exploration of intimacy, Jesse’s practice invites viewers into a world where vulnerability and softness are celebrated. ❤️ Reflecting on their own journey, Jesse felt for a long time that their queerness would prevent them from finding love.
