One of the perks of being an indie act is that I get to decide what the hell a gig actually *is*

Roller-skating dancers? Yep. Spoken word? Absolutely. Stand-up comedy? Why not.

So for my cosy little night at @21soho.sq , London, Nov 4th w @talentbanq I put out a support callout and found the fab @chloewilsonuk recommended by local radio’s very own @jesserindm . And my pal @zhouning__ is joining us with some of her new stand-up material, a friend from Beijing who I somehow reconnected with years later by recognising her visual genius in an artist photo. (The algorithm occasionally does something useful)

I love getting to put brilliant women on a stage because their art is fucking good. Not because someone’s filling a quota, ticking a box or congratulating themselves for being inclusive. We’re just making our own shows in rooms that should’ve been making space for us all along.

Anyway. more badass art. More weird little nights where anything can happen.

**21Soho, London. Nov 4th. Come get cosy with us.** 🖤 ok now it’s back to dog-sitting x

Even the most beautiful things have to end but we're lucky they happened, and that couldn't be more true for @foxgloveband who since 2019 have brightened my little world with magic and its been such a pleasure to see them grow as a fan, journalist and occasional show photographer from Castle Hotel to Kendal Calling and beyond.

Thank you for always being so welcoming and incredibly generous and supportive from interviews for one of my many uni projects (Abi you're a star) to chatting after shows, reviews and radio play, its crazy how fast the time has gone but it's been lovely to grow up together paralell. I'll cherish those moments forever.

Just look for the bright lights and sweets (iykyk) and they'll always be there. Foxglove Forever.

Me in 2016? Absolutely peak emo phase I internally don't think I'll ever leave behind (also the year my music journalism dreams began and got me where I am now!) I also still think I have that alice Cooper shirt somewhere which me and my mum spent ages painting in fake blood and red paint!

Oh nostalgia sweet reminder of passing time and fear of big ages 😂

Today is a very special day as this beauty of a vinyl has arrived! If you didn't already know back in January,I did a studio shoot with the brilliant @wretchedfairy for some press shots to promote their upcoming album 'Living In A Birdhouse' (out now) a task I still feel so lucky to have been trusted with especially with the nature of the ep being so personal and raw.
Little did I know this shoot would become so special and such a beautiful part of the ep in the form of it's vinyl release inner sleeve (cannot take credit for the front and back ep cover, incredible work from two incredible photographers) and I'm not one who's good with keeping things short and sweet but I'm very excited to be able to show off my first ever photos on an EP and what an incredible EP to be part of.

Big big love to @wretchedfairy for letting me inside your corvid intrigued, brilliant brain and world and allowing me to be part of something so special and of course big big love as well to @shr00mkid for the amazing make up you did for this shoot, you are such a talent and watching you work was magical.

🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛ I couldn't let something so cool pass me by,if you know me it was a struggle to keep this one hush 😅. It's my first ever time having my work on anything other than Instagram so it's pretty big in my mind 🥺 (bought by myself as I'm a sucker for a physical memory token)

NOW GO STREAM AND SPIN THE EP!!! FOR THE CROWS

Jess sees FVK in London year 2 electric boogaloo (now with added flair!) Part 2!

With an FVK show you know you're going to have a good time but something about this show was veryyyy special maybe it was the warmth of the venue or the ferocity they commanded the stage with, either way this was one of pure magic (I say it a lot but still). From the get go,FVK took that stage and tore the roof off of it,a perfect welcome back to the venue that hosted their original final gigs back in the day.

There is a new lease of life in the air and I cannot help but get incredibly giddy about what's potentially on its way. This gig,as I said to my lovely boyfriend at the gig, felt like I was 14 again seeing them for the first time with fire in their eyes and passion for creating what they loved and of course putting on a good show.( If you know me you'll know that passion got me into reviewing music and writing about it).

BONUS: my now 2 year old FVK tattoo has been officially thanks to Shane: he's named Skully (for those who were intrigued if anyone was 😅)

This was so special and I'm so glad I was there to witness it live and in vibrant colour.

Until next time ;;

There is no better way to start a high energy gig than either brilliant support acts and both @sinnersinthecityofficial and @devererocks made The Underworld stage their own with passion and a whole lot of spark
I truly think the adrenaline is still being processed in my brain from the brilliance of it if I'm honest, one minute you were time travelling back to the 2000s and captivated with rich raw lyricism and the you were jumping around and headbanging absolutely enthralled by classic rock musicality and outstanding showmanship (particularly from Devere's lead singer, that's some energy right there).

This is how you put on a Show!

Definitely go check both of these bands out because they have a very exciting future,I am certain of it.
