I had the honor of opening the Women of NonComm’s “Make Room” event with my “Our Own Table” as an icebreaker at the Non-Comm Conference on May 7.

First, thank you to the incredible women I had the pleasure of working alongside to help bring this gathering to life. Thank you @jessfromcosign , @carmelholt , @dauntj and last but definitely not least @ms.ayana.contreras …🫶🏾 On behalf of the entire planning team, THANK YOU to the powerful women who showed up. These are women deeply committed to collaboration, advocacy, and creating meaningful change throughout the music industry.

The #WomenOfNonComm gathered for a powerful and necessary conversation centered on the contributions, challenges, and impact of women in non-commercial music. To say this space was needed would be an understatement.

Thank you to the leaders, innovators, changemakers, and culture-shapers who created a space rooted in honesty, integrity, transparency, and vulnerability. Your willingness to share experiences, exchange ideas, and support one another was both inspiring and affirming.

Moments like these remind me that when others refuse to make room, we don’t wait for permission, we build “Our Own Table.”

Because representation matters, but access, opportunity, and community are what turn representation into lasting change.

📻 Thank you Lord Sear for always being so welcoming, and kind, and fucking FUNNY. Whether you were sitting at the end of the bar on a Weds nite at APT, or answering an email or text from me on some radio shit, you always gave me time and respect. I appreciate you.

📻 Radio is ALIVE. Whether it’s FM, online, satellite, discovering something a great song on air for the first time is a FEELING. 📻

📍I got the bug back when I was listening to mixshows on the weekend, Chuck Wren’s ska show, my old MD Eric Philsen’s industrial show, and it’s why joined my old High School Station (WLTL) - who’s one of the organizers of this IBSNYC conference I keep posting about!

🗣️This Friday I convinced a bunch of folks I love and respect to come talk about their jobs and their connection to radio, and it warms my heart they’re down to drop knowledge and inspire these youngs.

☑️ Radio breaks new artists. It’s not the same game it used to be…but the power of storytelling, and the impact of personal connection and curation on the FM dial is undeniable y’all. Let’s talk about it! by @jessfromcosign

📍If this year has taught us one thing, it’s that we can’t take anything for granted. We rely on Independent and Public Radio to keep us connected — to the news, to new music and art, and to our community that guides us forward. With federal support being cut from these essential stations, they need us more than ever

✊Here’s how you can stand with them:

1️⃣ Visit Adopt a Station and log on via adoptastation.org - @adoptastation

2️⃣ Support your local music station directly.

3️⃣ Then if you’re able, adopt one the the stations hit hardest by funding losses.

🗣️Every action counts. So even if you can’t donate, you can do something just as powerful: spread the word.
