Good morning ❤️ Yes, the world seems to get stranger everyday… I have a lot to say about AI which I won’t say here, except to share - how amazing is it that what is unfolding is actually calling us to reclaim and deepen into the best of our humanity - and that includes our most human superpower: our ability to imagine, and to reimagine. What are you imagining for your life and for the world today? I am so happy to have the time right now to build a new chapter of my life and a foundation from which I can pour beauty and meaning into the world through landscape design, art and writing. These have always been three separate modes of creative expression, and I am currently giving presence to weave them together into a mission that aims to bring out the best in people and place in tandem. Grateful for the alchemy of @aylanereo and her music - this is her song Curtain Rise (Eastern Sun) from her new album #Reimagine by @jessica___dune

Blue skies and sturdy chew sticks, a good way to start the day!! ♥️ Learned this Dolly song last night in a kickoff practice for a chorus in Victoria. So sweet to sing in harmony again, which I haven’t done much of since I left The Sea Ranch, where two other sweet songbirds and I founded a chapter of Threshold Choir. Wildfire has Big Sur, once again, in a stronghold. I am wishing all continued endurance and courage. I remember the night I watched the Soberanes Fire crest the eastern ridge near my then home ten years ago this past July like it was yesterday. A poem came through me last week. Glad the @montereycountyweekly has shared some of the poetry that has already emerged from this time - find the link in my bio to read to three poems, including my poem Rising Light (which I recommend listening to in the audio file, as it’s a longer prose poem). It’s funny to feel homesick for Big Sur in a time of crisis, but I am remembering how fire can truly bring out the best in people and in community. Not every stretch of the California coast has people as committed to protecting place and one another as Big Sur. Where there is wealth there is often transience. But where there is beauty, there are also big souls, big hearts, strong backs and helping hands who rise, every time. The image compilation is from the eastern horizon from my previous home. How strange to see firelight rise where I’d only known the light of the sun and the moon, and intermittent rainbows. Sending much love to all from Vancouver Island. This image sums up what I am feeling right now for those who are living through the Timber Fire. I am witnessing from afar the soul, strength and selflessness of the Big Sur community, and it is something to behold. I am watching you, dear friends, who already carry the stories of so many fires inside you write the story of this one — as a love story. You honor the redwoods with the burn scars you both keep expanding from. I DO actually miss the summer fog in California, but I don’t mind being able to wear bathing suits and sundresses in July 😂 I used to thrift cashmere sweaters in Carmel every summer right about now (to differentiate from winter sweaters). I took plenty of ocean dips there too, but usually after barefoot running the length of Carmel Beach first ♥️. So grateful for these rocky beaches, the Sooke River, and the power of water to renew us in these apocalyptic-feeling times. I am actually busy studying right now for my reciprocal licensure exam with BCSLA (British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects), but I’m ready to get back to the Gordon River after that 💕💕💕 Beginning to feel at home in a place where I was always just a traveller. Not my normal share, but for whoever this may remind that movement and song are always there to help bring us back into our bodies, here you go! 💕 So grateful for the music of @aylanereo - especially as I have been in a big life transition these last few months, which has been exciting but not easy. For those who don’t know, I have migrated from California up to Vancouver Island to make the most of my dual citizenship. My heart aches for California and all the people and landscapes there I love beyond words, even as I am enchanted to get to know the calm beauty of the Salish Sea, the wisdom of cedar, and the beauty of the coastal rainforest and the bears, cougar and even wolf we live with here 💕 Letting grace wash down over June and I, like the plentiful waterfalls here on this sacred island. #movewithlife #peaceofthewild by @jessica___dune
