Softball, it has been the privilege of a lifetime. I never could have imagined that when I first picked up a ball, it would lead me on this crazy journey. I never thought I could fall in love with a sport so deeply, so much to where it wasn’t just something I enjoyed doing, but it became a part of me. For these past 16 years, I have never known a life outside of softball. Sure there were other big aspects of my life, but softball was always there. It was always a constant. It was my escape from reality, my outlet when life wasn’t always going my way. I started this journey with no idea of what an impact it could have on my life. From the start, I knew there was no other sport for me. I am forever indebted to this sport, all of the amazing people it has brought into my life. This sport goes beyond the wins and losses, beyond the failures, it’s who you are surrounded by. Softball has brought me lifelong friendships and people I will cherish for the rest of my life.
Thank you, Softball, for pushing me in ways I didn’t know I could be pushed. You taught me to be resilient, to have grace with myself, to know that it’s not always going to be easy, to have grace with myself. The strikeouts, the errors, the failures made all the successes that much sweeter. It’s never easy playing a game of failure. It will eat you up if you let it. And honestly, sometimes it did. But it’s taught me more about myself than I ever could have imagined. You work so hard and sometimes the game doesn’t go your way, but that’s part of the love for the sport.
This journey would have never been possible without the people I am surrounded with. My parents, coaches, family, and teammates. Each person has played in important part in the player and person I have become. by @jessicamsenn
