Breathing Colors started out as a sweet poem I wrote on a sunny afternoon with Ameiko climbing on me.
I was probably exhausted covered in food and marker.
After a while I had forgotten all about that poem but the poem hadn’t forgotten about me. Months had gone by…
A good friend of mine lovingly encouraged me to write a children’s book and while I sat in her chair as she revived my hair, I realized I had a book in mind and I shared the poem with her.
She love it and kept the energy flowing.
She connected me with a young artist who was still in high school at the time and the real work began.

What I love most about Breathing Colors is its origins. It was birthed at such a raw time in my life. It is real and loving and made with care.

I gave birth to Naiobi while completing this book.
•
I will always be so proud of how I was able to bring that little poem to life. I will always be so proud of how young artist managed to create the most perfect illustrations all before going to college! What a triumph.

Making my dream job a reality!
During the last 4 years, life placed me in a role of stay-at-home mom. But if you know me, you know my love for teaching is a love that simply couldn’t be ignored while I raised my babies. So I got creative and did what I could when my children let me. Which was no easy task! During these last few years
I have had the pleasure of working closely with 5 families. I didn’t know it at the time but what I was doing was creating a very intentional role which has become my “dream job.” I have used all of my experience, education, and personal values to re-imagine the role of an Education Advocate. I work closely with families to explain options, interpret data, and adjust goals to enhance their children’s experience in school. I get to know the family and the child so when I speak on their behalf I do so with integrity.

I wrote a children’s book✨

Breathing Colors was a project of love and patience. Launching it was so exciting and the response from loved ones and strangers was beautifully supportive.
•
Being pregnant with our third child in 3 years was daunting at first. When I felt like the wind had been taken out of my sails, God was really just redirecting the journey and I’ve embraced that plan over my own.
•
I’ve had to let go of my dreams of a book tour (for now) and my focus is on keeping myself healthy and happy for my children.
•
Some women work vigorously until they give birth but that has never been me while I’ve been pregnant. At least not outside of my home.
•
I remember while pregnant with Ameiko when I was still a Special Education teacher and Coordinator I would have a group or a meeting and immediately have to lay on the floor because I was so drained.
•
My book has been tugging on me trying to get my attention. I have about 75 copies at home just itching to be read by curious eyes and held by sticky fingers.
•
It’s beautiful to witness my growth and all I’ve been able to accomplish while juggling so much life. However now I gracefully surrender to seeing my wealth in my children and the growth of my family.
•
Be open to the redirections of winds and trust the journey so that you may also enjoy it.🌬️🌀
