Conventional people pack a backup dress… but where’s the adventure in that?! 😉😘

I had my wedding guest look planned to perfection. Every detail considered, right down to the pocket square (thank you, husband!) and the jewellery, of course.

What I didn’t plan for? Travelling without my trusty hand steamer and finding myself with a dress that was no longer wedding-ready.

The irony of a personal stylist arriving at her VERY fashionable friend’s wedding in a wardrobe disaster was not lost on me. 😅

But sometimes, the best fashion moments are the ones you never planned.

Enter a little serendipity, a spontaneous adventure, and perhaps a generous dose of luck…

Just one block from our hotel, I stumbled upon the loveliest little boutique I’d never visited before. And there, hanging as though it had been waiting for me, was this gorgeous @apricot_clothing satin dress. In. My. Size. ✨

What started as a fashion emergency turned into the absolute pleasure of meeting Yvonne and Gillian, discovering a beautiful new boutique, @whocareswear and walking away with a dress I never knew I needed.

And judging by the compliments, she was a hit! 💋

How to look like a New Yorker when visiting NYC? A good outfit helps. And a little confidence gets you further. 🗽🍎

A few takeaways from my week in the city…

1. Sex and the City lied to us. 👠
Everyone isn’t running around in their Manolos. Sneakers, flats and boots deserve a place in your suitcase. The real styling skill? Putting together a look that turns heads and lets you walk twenty blocks.

2. Take the outfit photo. 🤳🏽
The mirror selfie. The sidewalk outfit check. The little strut for your camera. There’s inspiration on every corner, so don’t be shy about documenting your own contribution. You wore the outfit—give it its moment.

3. The jacket stays on. 🧣
Layer like it’s –10 when it’s actually +10. The coat, the knit, the scarf — it’s all part of the outfit. And if you get a little warm? Open the jacket. We didn’t build this look just to carry the best part over our arm.

4. Pack your manners. 🫶🏼
The “unfriendly New Yorker” stereotype? That is honestly never my experience. I met so many kind, helpful people. Say please, say thank you… and step aside when you stop to check your Google Maps or rearrange the baby’s stroller.

5. Take the subway. 🚇
Consider this your gentle push to get underground. Plan your route, wear those walkable shoes and enjoy moving through the city. Your outfit deserves to see more than the back seat of an Uber.

5. Book a date with yourself. 🥐
A coffee on the Met steps. A quiet moment in Central Park. Sitting alone, people-watching and taking it all in is a whole mood. You don’t need company to make it an occasion.

My biggest takeaway? Wear what feels like you, walk like you have somewhere to be, and leave room to get a little lost.

A recap from one of the best days of my life… seriously. 🥹💫

Megan, Kaitlin & Nicole, you’ve opened a whole new door for our industry, and being part of it has meant more than I can put into words.

The connections, knowledge, energy and friendships built over these past three days have reminded me why I love this work so much. To be surrounded by women who share that passion, who are so generous with their experience and so excited for each other’s success, has been incredibly inspiring.

I’m leaving with fresh ideas, deeper confidence and an even bigger vision for what’s possible - for my business and for our industry.

Your summer dresses aren’t done yet. 🍂

One of the biggest misconceptions about seasonal dressing is that a change in weather means you need a whole new wardrobe.

You don’t.

That floaty summer dress? Add a chunky knit, a structured blazer or an oversized leather jacket. Swap sandals for boots, add a sock or sheer tight, layer thoughtfully — and suddenly, it belongs in October just as much as it did in July.

Good styling changes the season. Not necessarily the clothes.
