I had the privilege of spending the month of August working with BAFTA Award-winning director Mikey Murray @middlemanproductions shooting his latest feature film @infromthedarkfilm, an incredible script shot in and around Lincoln, UK 🇬🇧

It was an honour witnessing rising stars @safbenaddi and @osian.hw.morgan’s adaptation of their characters Talia and Arlo, alongside accomplished British actors Paul Kaye, @emma._lowndes and @hollingworthworth all phenomenal to work with.

Thank you for trusting me with this project. I could not have done it with out the hard working young crew who were the true heroes at the end of the day ❤️ Special thank you to @scaz33, @greybe78 and @angiewads

I shot this piece immersed in a world that feels both charged and deeply human. I was drawn to what these taxis become after dark, transforming into tight, pulsing spaces where music takes over and bodies press together. Young people carve out a moment of escape, dancing to gqom at full volume and stepping into something almost trance-like through umgwinyo.

All of this unfolds at Umqhumo gatherings hidden between Durban’s dense sprawl and the ocean, where different taxi crews line up in formation, each with their own sound, their own energy, and their own following, and riding with Team Orange, led by Papa J and Junior Mike, I experienced it from within. From behind the camera, I was trying to capture that collision of intensity, ritual, and release as it actually feels from inside it. Each taxi and crew builds something that feels like a powerful, collective expression of creativity and transformation.

Had the best time and real honour shooting this short documentary with storyteller @grantdesousa.

Produced by Anything Goes, the film follows a series of characters inspired by their flagship festivals, moving through distinct worlds and emotional states.

“From the beginning, our focus has been on creating experiences that feel culturally honest,” says @shaunduvet. “This film represents how urban culture, music, and shared spaces intersect — and how the dance floor has become one of the most powerful platforms for connection in the experiential economy. It’s where people from different worlds meet, move together, and momentarily belong to the same story.”
