Las Mariposas, founded by Hannah Browning (Canada) and Jessica Huerta (Mexico), blends Hannah’s bachata choreography with Jessica’s salsa choreography into one fierce performance. Joined by their student Oksana (Ukraine), they’re bringing confidence, elegance and plenty of sabor to Robson Square.

WELCOME 49 🌱

Hoy celebro 49 con la certeza de que las mejores decisiones no siempre son las más fáciles, pero sí las que más nos transforman.

Este año me recordó que empezar de nuevo requiere valentía. Que construir una vida desde cero toma tiempo. Que hay días de mucha nostalgia y otros en los que descubres que, poco a poco, puedes empezar a sentirte en casa. También me empujó a poner en práctica algo que creía haber aprendido hace mucho: vivir con gratitud.

En una vida rodeada de comodidad es fácil pensar que valoramos lo esencial. Pero fue aquí donde realmente aprendí a abrazarlo: el color del cielo al amanecer, el vaivén de las hojas cuando el viento pasa, la forma en que una flor se abre sin pedir permiso. Es ahí, en esos pequeños detalles, donde comienza la verdadera gratitud. Porque cuando dejas de correr y empiezas a observar, comprendes que no necesitas tenerlo “todo” para sentirte plena. A veces basta con sentir el sol calentando tu piel (literalmente), la brisa acariciando tu rostro, el verdadero peso de un café con vista al mar, un abrazo, una conversación, bailar, la salud, mi familia… y esos desconocidos que, poco a poco, se convierten en amigos.

¿Cómo ha sido este año? Si tuviera que resumirlo en una palabra, diría: intenso.
Migrar, atravesar la menopausia, acompañar a mis hijos en los desafíos de la adolescencia y la neurodivergencia, reinventarme en otro país, aprender a empezar otra vez.

No ha sido un año fácil. Ha sido, probablemente, el año que más me ha exigido emocionalmente. Pero hoy elijo cerrar este ciclo de mis 40’s con gratitud, con ilusión, con esperanza, con la certeza de que lo mejor no es algo que me espera al final del camino, sino algo que estoy construyendo, paso a paso, día a día.

Los 49 me encuentran con más preguntas que respuestas… y, curiosamente, eso también es un regalo 🤗

This year, I celebrate you more than ever.
A few months ago, I felt lost… I didn’t know if I would dance again.

Life pushed me to discover you in a different way: it was either evolve or lose myself along the way.
I held on to you so I wouldn’t fall… and once again, you became my strength to move forward.

Qué mejor momento para subir este reel que le traía ganas desde hace un rato!
Gracias, gracias, gracias por tantos años de baile, risa, gozadera que poco a poco se convirtió en una relación donde me sentí segura y sabía que podía llorar, sentirme escuchada y segura!
Sin pensarlo fuiste un gran soporte en 2 momentos importantes para mí, donde pensé que ya no podría seguir bailando! Gracias por darme la oportunidad de seguir creciendo y sobretodo por no soltarme cuando recién llegué por acá y estaba tan vulnerable 💕

Victoria based performance group, LAS MARIPOSAS will be performing at VIKF2026.
Catch them on Friday April 3, at the centennial square, and on Saturday April 4, during the gala night with their latest dance performances at the VCC theatre🔥🔥

From Victoria, BC, Hannah Browning began her dance journey at just three years old, training in ballet and tap before expanding into jazz, hip hop, and contemporary at age 12. After college, she discovered salsa and bachata and instantly fell in love, immersing herself in partnerwork, ladies styling teams, performances, and the vibrant social scene across Victoria. In September 2024, she also founded her own dance social, @bachatavictoria, to grow and connect the community.

Originally from Mexico, Jessica Huerta began her formal dance training in Jazz and has since expanded her skills to Heels, Ballroom, and other urban styles. In recent years, she has focused on Latin dance, gaining extensive experience in Salsa (On2, Cuban Son, Cha-cha-cha, Boogaloo, Pachanga) and Bachata, performing in showcases, competitions, and international congresses. She continues to grow as a performer in Victoria’s vibrant dance scene.

Shortly after Jessica moved to Canada, she attended one of Hannah’s salsa styling classes in the summer of 2025. The two immediately connected and soon formed their first performance team together—Hannah choreographing bachata and Jessica leading salsa. Their first debut performance as the Las Mariposas team will be at the Victoria International Kizomba Fest of 2026! 🦋💕💃🏼
