The Beatles found their sound after Hamburg. Steve Jobs found part of Apple’s philosophy after India. Ernest Hemingway found a new voice in Paris. Sometimes the breakthrough doesn’t happen because you work harder, it happens because you leave the environment that taught you how to think.

Travel disrupts your patterns. It puts unfamiliar people, cultures, ideas and ways of living in front of you. And when your surroundings change, your perspective can change with them. Sometimes you have to leave what you know to discover what you’re capable of becoming. by @jessontheup

There’s something beautiful about being in your 40s.

You spent your 20s and 30s building a career by caring too much about everything, working harder, proving yourself and overthinking every move.

Then one day, you realize the career part is almost on autopilot. Not because you care less but because 20 years of experience means you know what you’re doing.

And suddenly, you have more energy to care about the other stuff.

Living. Traveling. Laughing harder. Taking care of yourself. Saying no. Falling in love with your life.

Maybe your 40s aren’t about slowing down, for me they’re about finally being good enough at the work that you have time to get really good at living. by @jessontheup

Today I was inspired by 2 conversations, one with a new friend and one, a previous colleague turned soul sister. The conversations were about becoming who we truly are meant to be and what it takes daily to deliver on that dream (Btw if you need a great realtor in charlotte, @_brittanydevane is your woman). My soul sister, well we have big plans for her so I’m excited to share what she is developing in the future, stay tuned on that soon.

But what I realized is, no matter if I’m teaching my students at Rutgers, reconnecting with a former employee, mentoring an entrepreneur friend, or helping someone navigate their next move, at my core, I’m a coach.

I have this deep drive to help people see more in themselves, develop what’s already there, and push them toward the version of themselves they haven’t fully stepped into yet.

And I’ve recognized most of my coaching follows six phases. So if you coach, lead or manage teams, this is for you:

1. LISTEN / Before I give advice, I understand the person, the problem and what they actually want. What does success look like?

2. SEE / Sometimes a coach’s greatest gift is seeing the potential, patterns and blind spots someone can’t see for themselves. What are the perceived challenges or limited beliefs?

3. CHALLENGE / Growth requires someone willing to ask the uncomfortable question and call you higher. What is holding them back?

4. GUIDE / Turn the big vision into strategy, decisions and tangible next steps. Is there a clear roadmap breaking down the long term goal into daily and consistent actions?

5. PUSH / There’s a point where you don’t need another conversation. You need someone to say, “Okay. Now go do it.” Do they have the support system in place?

6. RELEASE / The goal of great coaching isn’t to make someone dependent on you. It’s to help them trust themselves enough that eventually, they don’t need you. Do they believe and are they ready to take action?

That might actually be my favorite part. A great coach doesn’t create followers they create people who are ready to lead. by @jessontheup

🎓 College campuses are becoming the next creator economy battleground.

Brands like @urbanoutfitters, @nike, @levis, @converse, @guess, @amazon, @abercrombie and @stevemadden are going BIG on campus—but these 5 caught my eye 👀

💸 @venmo — Cash Grab + NIL athletes @drewallar, @oliviamiles & @canady_nijaree + Gen-Z creators like @jtcasey and @alix_earle.

💄 @sephora × @kayali — experiential beauty hitting @spelman_college & @aamu1787 with @monakattan.

👖 @calvinklein — mobile retail hitting @uofpenn & @gwuniversity, while @teyanataylor drives culture for the brand.

⚡️ @celsiusofficial — campus activations + College GameDay + student creators + NIL athletes @bryceunderwood, @dantemoore, @chris.henryjr & @camcoleman3.

👜 @coach × @spotify — fashion + music + campus culture with @tinashenow, @rachelchinouriri & @fousheelive.

And here’s the proof: one @itsa10haircare college campaign generated 21M+ organic impressions.

The campus is the experience and the students are the content creators.

I’ve built businesses before, worked my way up to being a Vice President, worked with some of the biggest names and brands in the world. But after 20 years in this game, I made myself a promise: in this chapter, I am laughing more, enjoying life, being more active in my community and pouring into myself while I continue to grow in this 2nd half of my career. by @jessontheup

Proud moment! 🧡⛳️ MMG had the incredible opportunity to co-sponsor the morning activities at the Muggsy Bogues Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic.

It was an amazing day of showing up for the Charlotte community, bringing people together and raising money to support those in need. And I even got a golf lesson from the champ himself, Mad Max! 🏌🏽‍♀️

This is what partnership with purpose looks like and I’m so proud that MMG was part of it.

Golf isn’t just changing, it’s becoming one of the biggest intersections of sports, fashion, music and culture. ⛳️🔥

Coming to you from Piper Glen at the Muggsy Bogues Foundation Celebrity Golf Event, I ranked five collaborations that helped take golf beyond the traditional country club:

5️⃣ @macklemore’s @bogeyboys × @adidasgolf
Vintage golf style reimagined through the lens of music and street culture.

4️⃣ @champagnepapi’s @officialnocta × @nikegolf
Drake saw golf’s cultural shift coming before nearly every other entertainer.

3️⃣ @travisscott × @jumpman23
One of streetwear’s most coveted sneakers became functional golf footwear—reversed Swoosh included.

2️⃣ @tigerwoods × @taylormadegolf with @sundayred
After 27 years with Nike, Tiger moved from endorsement to ownership and built a brand around his legacy.

1️⃣ @eastsidegolf × @jumpman23
Two Morehouse golfers brought culture, storytelling and sneaker energy onto the course and helped change what the modern golfer looks like.

Golf has officially entered a new era, and these collaborations prove the opportunity extends far beyond traditional equipment and apparel deals.

Which collaboration takes the clubhouse crown? 👇🏽

🏈 FOOTBALL IS BACK and the business of football is evolving.

This week’s Cool Collabs of the Week is all football, but I’m watching what’s happening off the field just as closely as what’s happening on it.

🍺 @athleticbrewing × Dak Prescott × @drake.maye, NFL stars aren’t just ambassadors anymore. They are equity owners.

📱 @nfl × @youtube × @deestroying × @zachking the NFL is building what looks a whole lot like its own creator media network, tapping creators across sports, fashion, food, gaming and culture to reach new audiences.

🏈 @nfl “The Season Is Your Stage” touchdown celebrations are becoming content. Players create it. The league amplifies it. Creators recreate it. Fans spread it.

💰 And NIL? More than $227 MILLION in deals reportedly cleared in July + August alone. College athletes are quickly becoming one of the most scalable creator and influence networks in sports.

The bigger shift?

Football players are becoming owners, creators and media channels, and fans are becoming part of the distribution.

Welcome to the new business of football. 🏈📈

Which one is your favorite?

Follow @jessontheup and check back next week for more #CoolCollabsOfTheWeek dropping every Monday at 8pm EST.

Miami energy, LA backdrop. 🌴✈️⛳️

When @davionmitchell and @bam1of1 brought the #305Boys to Los Angeles for team mini camp, MMG brought in @eastsidegolf to make sure the culture traveled with them.

From the court to the fairway, the Miami squad showed up fresh, connected and fully kitted for a golf outing built around team, competition and style.

This is what happens when sports, culture and the right brand partner meet at the perfect moment. 🔥

The consumer isn’t just the audience anymore. They’re becoming the media, the distribution and even the investor. 👀

This week’s Cool Collabs of the Week:

💄 @sephora × @tiktokshop_us — social becomes the store.

🏟️ @sociosdotcom × @securitize — fans could go from supporters to micro-investors AND micro-influencers.

👟 @palmangels × @pacsun × @avani — creator as the cultural bridge between a global fashion brand and a new generation of consumers.

🏃 @hoka × @strava — consumer behavior becomes the content AND the billboard.

The best collaborations aren’t just asking, “Who can influence our consumer?”

They’re asking: “How do we turn our consumer into the influence?”

Which collab wins this week? 👇

Follow @jessontheup for more of the deals changing how brands, talent and culture do business.

Labor Day is my signal: the year isn’t winding down, it’s time to turn it up.

This weekend always marks the beginning of my fall-to-winter arc. My birthday is next month, there are four months left in 2026, and I’m resetting my goals, sharpening my focus and preparing to make my biggest strides yet. by @jessontheup
