It took us 5 friggin’ years but WE FINALLY FINISHED THE VENICE EPISODE OF JETLAG ROCKNROLL!!! We filmed it with Venetian black metal surf band @destroyallgondolas in Nov 2019...but then covid hit and you all know how that went.

Fast forward to Oct 2022, when the fantastic @wereloudfest folks organized an epic week-long rocknroll vacation in Italy that started in Venice and ended in Naples. We know that no one visits Venice for a rocknroll adventure but hot damn! We’re Loud made it happen—with boats! 🛶 We’re lucky that we were able to experience it and we’re also happy to see that most Venetian businesses survived the pandemic so we barely had to change the episode.

Here are some snaps from that We’re Loud weekend, featuring @theanomalys_official, Destroy All Gondolas, @the_dirtiest_band, @the_okmoniks, and @rolandobrunomusica.

📽 Link to JetLag RocknRoll Venice in bio, complete with the best tips from Biondo and Pido. (We ate better with them than we did during our first visit without them!) Check it out and let us know what you think. And if you have any favorite spots in Venice that weren’t mentioned, feel free to share! taken in Venice, Italy by @jetlagrnr

2026 was John Waters’ 12th year hosting Mosswood Meltdown !!! “The festival’s beloved Pope of Trash seized every opportunity to spread his grimey gospel and wrote a personalized introductory speech for every band that weekend. Every speech was crafted with such mastery that sleaze began to sound sacred.” - @uclaradio (Check out the UCLA Radio review, link in bio!)

What was your favorite John Waters quote you heard at Mosswood Meltdown?

Canderson here. Hard to hear the news of Cheetah Chrome’s recent passing. I was really lucky to see him in action 5 times in my life (and even share the stage with him once at the Note!) and had to dig through my archives to unearth these photos, some of which I might not have ever posted anywhere until now.

The 2 times I saw him with Craig Bell (once as Rocket from the Tombs) were seriously incredible. So good! And I gotta say that his Dead Boys performance at Burger Boogaloo in 2019 with James Williamson was probably one of the best of any they’ve had. Thanks to @mosswoodmeltdown for bringing two protopunk legends together that year!

RIP Cheetah. 🖤 Thanks for all the blistering tunes.

All photos by Canderson except 15-19.

💀The Spits pit at Mosswood Meltdown💀
Even @mosswoodmeltdown founder Marcos & Toyozo of @thefadeaways_band couldn’t resist @the_spits mayhem in the amphitheater on Saturday. Feel free to tag yourself or anyone you recognize!

If you missed them or didn’t get enough of them, catch them at @bottomofthehillsf on 9/14!

🦩 MOSSWOOD MELTDOWN Day 2 recap 🦩
We went a little too hard on Day 1 and got a later start than we’d planned, but one of us still managed to make it out of the house and into the packed amphitheater just in time to catch Toody Cole & her band perform their final song, “Dead Moon Night.” (Sorry we missed Frightwig, the Bananas, and Las Nubes!)

The rest of the day was nonstop action, with dust-raising performances by @theebikinikill, @thereturnofjackieandjudy (Ramones tribute featuring Corin & Carrie of Sleater-Kinney and Fred Armisen), @frankieandthewitchfingers, @deadmilkmenofficial & @thepeacheschrist Punk Pride.

Not pictured: a crowdsurfing Pee-wee Herman in platforms almost knocking us over after their fierce cover of the Germs’ “Lexicon Devil.” (If anyone caught that on video, please point them our way!)

We did photograph the Dead Milkmen’s Rodney Anonymous thanking MC John Waters for changing his life, but some moments just don’t translate to still images. 🥹

It was ridiculously hard deciding which photos to share today so we’ll be posting more soon, especially of the amazing people who make the fest so unique and wonderful. But swipe through for Sunday’s shenanigans and let us know if your mouth was as gritty as ours after spending any amount of time in the pit. 😅

Thanks again to Marcos, Amy & the incredible @mosswoodmeltdown team for pulling off another unforgettable weekend, and to @kalxradio for their support. Catch ya next year (July 10 & 11–early-bird tix on sale now)!

Mosswood Meltdown was a blast yesterday, especially with the return of the amphitheater! We missed the first 2 bands of the day (Primitive Ring, the Drags) but caught everyone else: @iggypopofficial, @otobokebeaver, @mannequinpussy, @the_spits, @snooper_7, @thedirtbombsband & @thefadeaways_band. MC John Waters, of course, was as hilarious as ever.

We even spent some time in the pit, which we haven’t done on purpose since the last time the Meltdown had sets in the amphitheater. We forgot what a rush it is—but with 15 pounds of camera gear, our backs, shoulders, and wrists are questioning our life choices. 😅

The biggest surprise? Iggy, whom we last saw when he was a wee 64-year-old (he turned 79 this year!). When he and Los Tropicanos kicked off their set with the Stooges’ “TV Eye” and ripped through many more Stooges classics, we totally lost it.

Huge thanks to Marcos, Amy & the @mosswoodmeltdown team for once again putting on all this fun in the sun for us & our 10,000 closest friends! And yay to @kalxradio for supporting the fest since the beginning!

Swipe through for some of our favorite moments, including an unexpected crowdsurfer. Check back soon for more photos from the weekend!

We had a fantastic time capturing these scenes from @ymandtherumours’ record release party at @kilowatt_bar_sf last month, joined by @silllverware and @sounds.like.rhymies. It totally felt like a reunion for folks who’ve enjoyed Yea-Ming’s music for decades!

Their 4th album, “Residue,” is out on @dandyboyrecords, and the perfect soundtrack for when you’re feeling introspective or nostalgic.

We met Chad Kawamura for the first time in 2008 at Gonerfest in Memphis, even though we all lived in the Bay Area at the time. Funny that it took a trip across the country to befriend someone from our own backyard. After that, it was always a good time when we ran into him at a show or party.

We took these photos of him and the Outdoorsmen at Budget Rock 2009 at Thee Parkside (soon to be replaced by condos 😔) and Pissed Off Pete’s in 2010. At the PoP show, Chad gave their soon-departing drummer a proper send-off by splitting his forehead open when he jumped off the bass drum during the final song. That was Chad—all in every time.

Somehow we may not have taken photos of his other bands Life Stinks, Modern Dance, and Spiral Dub. Maybe our timing was just off? But it’s been comforting seeing photos and videos of Chad in action (on stage, hanging out, cat whispering) shared by others these past few days—a nice reminder of how many people he touched.

Rest easy, Chad. Our little corner of the world is smaller without you.

⚡️⚡️⚡️A fantastic Friday night at Bottom of the Hill with @johnnytheband @tinathebandofficial & @useless.eaters!

@bottomofthehillsf may be closing at the end of the year, but they’re clearly going out swinging. If this place has ever meant something to you, you’ll definitely want to come out and catch a favorite band or discover a new one here while you still can.
