Everything I bought in Singapore over a week? I’m so pleased you asked. This was a shopping spree of Disney, Formula 1, souvenirs, food… so much 😅 I didn’t expect to buy as much as I did, but it’s all about memories and souvenirs isn’t it!

What souvenirs do you always buy when travelling? I love hats, magnets, stickers, and local food 😍

Here it is, the big day… INDIA DIARIES on day 15 finds us at the Taj Mahal as the sun goes down.

Yes it’s busy (maybe a better timed visit would have helped, which is where private touring can be better than group tours), but that takes nothing away from how spectacular she is 😍

I explored the inside of the Taj Mahal (no photography allowed, sorry folks) and then found myself a quiet corner to reflect and people watch as the sun dropped down behind the other (also beautiful) buildings.

Tomorrow is the last ‘sightseeing’ day of our @intrepidtravel tour, as we then head back to Delhi for a final night before flights home.

This whole journey, from Kerala 15 days ago to the Taj Mahal in Agra has been a privilege, an education and an experience I will never experience. Travel changes you, doesn’t it?

If you want to explore India, or anywhere in the world, I can make it happen. Whether a group tour or a tailored private itinerary, it will be incredible 🌍

Day 14 of the INDIA DIARIES is a little briefer as the day mainly consisted of driving, as we left Jaipur to head towards Agra, via a rural heritage property.

🎈 This morning I opted for my first ever hot air balloon ride! It was fascinating to see the pilot at work, and luckily was nice and toasty despite being early in the morning! Thank you to @skywaltzballoonsafari for keeping us safe and comfortable. We landed in a field which was obviously a shock to the locals as they all rushed out to take selfies and offered us tea.

🛏️ The heritage property that @intrepidtravel was @heritagelotwarafortbyalivaa which is a family owned and run hotel, converted from a 17th century fort. We learnt how Intrepid selects local, heritage properties in rural communities to bring business and support to the area; they move on after a long period of time when the area is more developed so support a new location.

💍 We did a village walk, and saw how some people invite people to their wedding… they write it on a building so everyone sees and is invited!

🌅 We caught a gorgeous sunset from the roof of @heritagelotwarafortbyalivaa with a local G&T and a local girl came and did henna for us for a small charge.

Tomorrow it’s back on the road for the final stretch to Agra, where a very impressive, famous building awaits us…

If you’ve ever thought “I’d like to go to [insert country] but nervous about going”, maybe a small group tour is perfect for you! Professional guides, advice, experience, like-minded companions, a variety of activities… it’s a great option!

The INDIA DIARIES continues with a day exploring the Pink City, Jaipur 🩷

💨 First up is Hawa Mahal, or the Palace of Winds. Originally intended to allow royal ladies to observe everyday life without being seen. Now it’s a beautiful building and very, very popular to visit.

🐘 Se then headed to Amber Fort, which is where I got very upset about the elephants being used to go up and down the hills. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and was made with 12 rooms, one for each of the Raja’s queens.

💧 We stopped by the Water Palace too, which was intended to be a duck hunting lodge instead of a residence. The lake is 300 acres and is entirely man made.

💎 We also visited @marcopolojewellers to see how they cut and finish precious and semi-precious stones, and we may have done some shopping… Jaipur is famous as a gemstone and jewellery capital because of its royal legacy and direct sourcing.

🍛 That night we were fortunate enough to visit a local family who made us dinner. We helped a little but generally got in the way… it was fascinating to hear about life for a local, what their days look like, and our host was honest about her family life and marriage which was interesting for us to learn about.

All of these experiences and activities are included on the @intrepidtravel small group tour to the Golden Triangle. Again, I paid my own money so I could experience the tour style and help advise my clients better.

If these sorts of activities sound like something you’d enjoy, let’s have a chat and I’d love to help 🫶 taken in Jaipur, Rajasthan by @jetsetting.with.jess

Moving on to day 12 of the INDIA DIARIES sees me moving on with my @intrepidtravel group to the next stop in the Golden Triangle, Jaipur. This city inspired me to be a little arty with my photography, so forgive me 🙏

🩷 Jaipur is known as the Pink City because of the terracotta colour painted on the building. It was painted to welcome Queen Vic’s son, Albert (who confusingly became King Edward VII). He named it the ‘Pink City’ and it stuck. It’s colourful, but pink is a bit of a stretch, Alb/Ed.

🌶️ Walking through the market in Jaipur, there were so many spices and chillis! They really get to the back of your throat 😂 We came across a man who sharpens knives and scissors, and his little doorway fascinated me. I’m not entirely sure how many fingers and toes he has left.

⏰ We headed to Jantar Mantar to the world’s largest sundial, according to @guinnessworldrecords. I was thrilled to find the instrument relating to my star sign ♏️ Our guide also read my palm. I’m not sure how much of it will come true…

🎨 Next up was a visit to @ganeshamtextile_india to see blockprinting and a look around their store.

🍴 Dinner that night was an excellent choice by our guide, overlooked by a fort. We shared a thali and several other dishes which were all excellent 👌

Jaipur was a huge change from Delhi. Chaotic yet, but colourful, vibrant, arty, cleaner… that will teach me to judge north India by Delhi alone!

If you’re looking to tour parts of India, whether on a group tour with a tour operator like @intrepidtravel or as a private, tailormade tour, that’s why I’m here and would love to help you 🇮🇳 taken in Jaipur, Rajasthan by @jetsetting.with.jess

The INDIA DIARIES continues onto day 11, which was the first full day of my Golden Triangle trip with @intrepidtravel (again reminder I paid for this rather than a hosted trip) 🇮🇳

🚇 Catching the subway in Delhi was a surprisingly pleasant and easy experience, made even better by ladies carriages on the trains.

🍅 We met a man who has been selling vegetables from that spot in Delhi for decades. He seemed chuffed to meet us and asked for a photo all together!

☕️ We then stopped at this little chai cart, again this man has been making chai here for decades. It was really delicious and the more I travelled through the country, the more I noticed regional variations on the balance of spices.

🕌 We visited Jama Masjid in Old Delhi, which is a spectacular mosque build in the mid 1600s. I loved watching the people prepare for worship and just wondering around here.

🍛 Next stop was Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib; no photos inside but this is the site where the 9th Sikh Guru was beheaded in the 1600s. We wondered around the 24/7 kitchen within the Gurudwara where anyone can come to help prepare food and eat. I loved watching the women gossip together, and attempted to make roti but learnt pretty quickly I was terrible.

🍴 There’s a chain called @haldirams.official which we visited a couple of times. It was street food style food and very delicious!

🌳 That evening we went to @lodigardens which was beautiful and so peaceful compared to the madness of Old Delhi. Driving here took us out of Old Delhi and into New Delhi, which had quite a different feel and definitely an area I’d like to have explored more.

This day was all about culture, sightseeing and learning! Getting the balance right is key on a trip, you don’t want to leave feeling like you haven’t seen the city, but also don’t want to feel like you’re back at school!

If India has been on your bucket list for a while, I’d love to have a chat about how we can design you the perfect trip 🫶 taken in Delhi, India by @jetsetting.with.jess

The INDIA DIARIES DAY 10 is when I leave behind the lush state of Kerala in the south and head up north to Delhi to start my @intrepidtravel Golden Triangle tour 🇮🇳 I paid for my Intrepid trip with my own money. This is a tour I picked based on the supplier, itinerary and dates, and haven’t been hosted by Intrepid in my role as an agent.

✈️ the day kicked off EARLY with a transfer from my hotel to fly up to Delhi. I was taken to my hotel then straight out into Old Delhi for a food tour.

🍛 My tour was arranged by my fabulous supplier and Chef Aditya took me around the markets to experience authentic street-style food that is suitable for foreign tummies 😂 this means these are places that are safe, using clean water and ingredients, and are true masters in their product.

🥪 Yes that is a mango and paneer sandwich. Yes it was incredible and I was chuffed they cut the crusts off.

🥔 I met a man who has been serving Aloo Chat for YEARS and he is the King of Potatoes. What amazed me is that people spend years perfecting the art of a small number of dishes, and spend their life making that dish.

🍽️ The next photo shows Puri with chole and kofta, but what got me is the story. We sat next to two older men, they were watching sport on a phone, propped up against a napkin dispenser. My guide explained these two men have been coming to this cafe every day for years. Now they’re retired, they come in the morning for breakfast, hang out together, then go home in the afternoon.

🍊 When I said someone fine tunes their craft over years, this kulfi says it all. I met the man who is 94 years old and has been making and selling kulfi his whole life.

👨‍🍳 I ended seeing the studio where cooking classes are held and I was SO IMPRESSED by the quality of the studio and equipment, and the passion of the whole team working there.

🍔 Don’t judge but I had McDonald’s delivered that night. Unsurprisingly, no BigMacs but I did try their Chicken Maharaja Mac… probably the worst meal of the whole trip.

This day was PERFECT for a foodie and is exactly what I love designing for my clients. If India is on your list, let’s have a chat as I have so much to share with you! 🫶 taken in Delhi, India by @jetsetting.with.jess

Day 9 of INDIA DIARIES brings a busy day with an early start, but so much fun stuff as my time in Kerala with @indiamore_tbi draws to an end.

🛶 Kicked off the day with a sunrise kayak through the backwaters, including meeting the locals as they caught their catches of the day to sell.

🦉 Back at @mararibeach_cghearth we had a walk around with a naturalist who spied this sleepy owl. Walking around the resort is so lovely, including this mirror I photographed backstage for staff.

🧘‍♀️ India is well known for Ayurveda, and the Marari Beach Resort had the most developed Ayurveda centres and treatment plans I’d seen, including a special kitchen on site where they make all the products used in the treatments.

🪦 We went to visit @xandaripearl property which I really enjoyed visiting, plus their signs looked like graves and my inner goth appreciated that.

🧑‍🍳 Back at Marari Beach, myself and another Travel Counsellor had a private hands-on cooking class where we made thoran (a vegetable dish) and a prawn curry.

🥻 To celebrate the last night of our Kerala trip, our hosts kindly arranged us all to have a sari each and the ladies at the hotel dressed us all. We all felt like princesses 👸

Getting to see Kerala was such a treat, and is so different from what you expect when you think of India. If you’re looking to see a different side to the country, or plan a trip with a relaxing, lush finale, then it might be perfect for you 🇮🇳

Everything I bought or was gifted during my trip to India 🇮🇳

I’ve travelled the world and this is only the third time I’ve run out of luggage space and had to invest in a new suitcase, woops! 🧳

I didn’t expect the shopping to be as good as it was in India, so I want to shout out some amazing vendors from along my travels:

🎈 @skywaltzballoonsafari for my first ever hot air balloon ride
🧺 @aranya.natural for their gorgeous fabrics and sustainable fashions using traditional, artisanal craft techniques, operating as a not for profit to support differently-abled individuals
📝 @athulya_paper_studio at the same not for profit, hand making sustainable paper products
☕️ @sheroes_hangout has 4 cafes in north India where they provide employment to survivors of acid attacks, and crafting employment opportunities to those who live too far from the cafes
🌶️ @kumarspices in Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi, for their brilliant range of spices and teas, and the only place where I found yellow chilli powder!
💍 @marcopolojewellers for my stunning yellow sapphire ring which they handmade for me THE SAME DAY
🧑‍🍳 @mararibeach_cghearth for my apron and recipe book after completing the wonderful hands-on cooking class
🫚 @green_park_spices for the interesting tour around their plantation and all the spices I bought from their store
🥥 @khudrangindia @chefrajeevgoyal @indiafoodtour for hosting me in their cookery studio and gifting me their own unique spice blends

A big thank you to @indiamore_tbi and @intrepidtravel for introducing me to these amazing vendors so I can hear their stories and support their ventures. Sharing these recommendations with my clients makes all the difference to their experiences too 🫶

If you’ve been considering India as your next destination, I have so much to share with you!
