finally introducing the book (of a movie) that changed my life…a reimagining of Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise as an 80-page circular screenplay book,
translating the film’s themes of time, color, and connection into the physical form of the book itself.

this was such a special (and crazy) one of a kind project with so many ups and downs from last spring’s intro to book arts class !

hope you enjoy :)

the semicircular pages gradually unfold into a complete circle, literally flipping through the shifting of color as the film approaches sunrise.

all 80 pages were handcut into a circle and carefully glued by hand to create a unique open-binding that summarizes the passing of time in the film to one side of the book.

the original screenplay was condensed to focus solely on dialogue, reflecting how the film is driven by the evolving conversation between Jesse and Céline.

through its unconventional structure, the book explores how the experience of reading a screenplay can become spatial, tactile, and reflective of the film it represents.

a closer look at the halftone imagery and shifting color alongside the dialogue throughout the book.
