No better time than now to take ownership of your career by getting stronger, more explosive, and more mobile than you’ve ever been. If you’re ready to get after it, hit my line! by @jfranks.pitching
Off-season coaching is BACK! Excited to get after it again with my returners as well some fresh grinders. DMs are open for new players! by @jfranks.pitching
Continued series on my return path from years of throwing in pain. And my attempt at competing with @l.schaf19 Had a pro baseball PT tell me a bit ago “I’ve never seen a pitcher so strong yet functionally weak in my life.” Tough blow for a guy that’s lived in the gym this decade solely for pitching performance. Was time to change! Through guidance I’ve added explosive stability elements to all of my lifts. Being able to move weight explosively, but do it with stable joint movement and proper muscle activation. Eccentric movements, multi second holds, quick power transitions. Has been a shift and can’t wait to implement with my athletes. New strength profile inbound! by @jfranks.pitching
Since recovering from TJ, I’ve been able to reach my highest velocities but I haven’t been able to do so without pain. As I mentioned, it was time to make a mechanics change. See the details of the early stages➡️ Original arm action, film from June 2026. Are these mechanics objectively bad for you? No - they supported me healthily all the way until I got north of 96 mph. Screenshots -> Arm long out of the glove. As low as back knee height creating the start of a long long arm loop. Hand/ball gets so far behind body the screen couldn’t even hold it. Poor angle, but foot about to strike and arm nowhere near 90°. Poorly cropped side video. Someone want to manage my social media? Unable to get full leverage at leg lift. First glove move is forward - inexplicable, creates directional issues and longer arm path with no benefit. Better foot strike angle. ~15° outside of 90, not good for elbow valgus stress. Finally, the early stages of the new arm action. Ball straight out from glove. Still able to reach full scap retraction with shorter path. Better cropped side view. Much better leverage with back leg at front leg lift. Great coil still with good glove position. Ball straight out of the glove without the forward motion. Arm within 90° at foot strike. Lead leg block still optimal at release. Will these mechanics changes take the stresses off of my elbow at full intent? Will I be able to reach the same velo ranges? Questions I still can’t answer for awhile. But my body was telling me this wasn’t working anymore, so it was time for a change. Stay tuned! by @jfranks.pitching

Gavin Restad, Windsor HS ‘28 Gavin began working with me as an 8th grader 2 offseasons ago and has stayed with the program ever since. It’s not so often a middle schooler comes into his first pen and touches 80 mph, but Gavin was there with no assistance. He was a physical beast, but had some definite mechanical flaws as well as improvements needed in the secondary stuff department. Right away, we had Gavin attacking catch play drills targeting both his lead leg and front side. We needed both of these to become more consistent and efficient. We adjusted his curveball into a power slider, and it quickly became an absolute weapon. There was very little feel for a traditional change, so we introduced the Vulcan change, and it became legit within a few pens. After a summer of crushing his lifting and mobility programs, Gavin approached our offseason work with the goal of making the Varsity team as a Freshman. Not only did he make the team, but he became one of the most feared relievers in the league. Displaying a FB range of 87-89 with 2 devastating offspeed offerings, he went 5-1 with a 2.39 ERA, and 47 Ks in 29.1 IP, a K/9 of 14.4! Gavin has gone from a future project to a legit P4 D1 prospect, and with his work ethic, the sky is seriously the limit. by @jfranks.pitching
Hank Ballard Tam HS ‘26, uncommitted Hank was another guy who began working with me remotely last Spring and into Summer. He had a lot of feel for a true side arm delivery, and had decent velo from this slot despite being undersized in the weight column. He spent last Summer attacking the weight room like a mad man, and was thus able to enjoy a solid velo jump before we had any in person work. Our main in person work revolved around developing a consistent game plan. The sweeper that he could throw as a strike and as a finish pitch was simply devastating and I challenged him to throw it near 50% of the time. This is a tall task for a High School pitcher, where most guys seem to want to throw 70% fastballs. We were able to make some improvements on the change as well as the natural sinker, and our repertoire was complete. In a stacked Tam high rotation, Hank was relegated to the closer role this spring, where he was the simply the best pen arm in the league. On top of being 5/5 in saves, Hank put up a minuscule 0.36 ERA, and an absurd batting average against of 0.114. That’s 1 hit every 9 at bats! This with a 3-1 K to BB ratio. Hank enters his last HS Summer as a legit college prospect, and only time will tell what program will be lucky enough to land him. by @jfranks.pitching
Griffin Messenger, Justin Siena HS ‘26, uncommitted After a solid post-injury sophomore campaign, @griffmessenger started working with me remotely last Summer. We were immediately able to address his weak lead leg block, as well as get him on a weights program that supported his Summer/Fall schedule while making some serious gains. By the time we started working in person during the offseason, he had already made serious strides. Now we had to dial in his stuff. The slider needed little to no work, but there were adjustments to be made with the FB/CH. Griff struggled to get ride on his FB, and we were able to deduce pretty quickly that he was a natural sinker baller. Once we switched to a seam shifted sinker grip, he was throwing mid 80s bowling balls in the zone. Added a consistent cue to the change and with his natural pronation, it became an absolute weapon. We now had a diabolical 3 pitch mix going into Junior year Spring, and I can’t say I was shocked by the results. Across 13 starts, Griff was 8-1 with a 1.09 ERA, with 83 Ks to 17 BB in 64 innings. It was a season of consistent dominance leading him to winning VVAL Pitcher of the Year. The FB is now living upper 80s with turbo sink, and the SL/CH combo is untouchable. Can’t say I have any clients that work harder than Griffin (saying a lot!) and as a result, he’s knocking on the door of D1 offers this Summer. by @jfranks.pitching
